Avoid Sainsbury's Bank

I took Martin's Money advice and opened a Sainsbury's Bank credit card. BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE!!!!!! Interest free??? They charged me interest. I got that sorted. Set up a Direct Debit. The money wasn't taken. They didn't contact me but I got an email from Expedia to say my credit score had gone down. Then Sainsbury's Bank had the cheek to charge me late fees!!! I got that sorted and the person I spoke to promised he'd check that the July payment went through. THEN I get an email from Expedia to say my credit score had gone down due to late payment!!!! I spoke to a robot from Sainsbury's Bank who assured me the previous person HAD checked my account on July 5th. The robot then basically said it was my fault that my Direct Debit wasn't paid until 6th July!!!!! I made a formal complaint on the website through the formal complaints system and FIVE DAYS later I get this:- "Hi Ms Bain,
I have passed your details onto our Customer Relations team who will be in touch directly. Please be aware it may take a number of weeks/months before someone is in touch.
Many thanks,"
MONTHS!!!!!!!!!
BY THEN MY CREDIT SCORE WILL BE ZERO AND I'LL BE STARVING AND ON THE STREETS!!!!!
AVOID SAINSBURY'S BANK.

Don't SHOUT but do avoid exclamation marks.4

Why does an irrelevant credit score being zero = starvation? What a ridiculous rant.9

Am I right in thinking you missed the original payment so your 0% offer was removed and a late fee applied? If you missed the payment you forfeit the offer and will get charged interest.
Moving on to the direct debit was it showing on your statement to confirm it had been set up in time?3 -
If you’ve been charged interest then you must have done something against paying the terms and conditions, such as not paying on time.If you didn’t pay on time then they are entitled to pay you late payment fees - it is not ‘cheek’ but rather the contract you agreed to when you applied for the card.Expedia is a travel booking site, not sure how they are relevant to any of this.Your credit score will almost certainly not be zero with any of the credit reference agencies, and even if it was nobody sees your score other then you so why do you think you’ll be unable to go to the shops to buy a loaf of bread and end up starving?5

Expedia have moved into credit ratings? I knew the holiday industry was in a bad way......I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.4

It does clearly say, in many places, make sure that the statement indicates that payment will be taken by DD otherwise it is up to you to ensure that the payment reaches them on time.
It can take some time to set up direct debits so what the statement says is king - if the statement says DD will be taken and then it isn't then you have grounds for complaint, otherwise you don't.
If this is the biggest mistake of your life then you are doing pretty well.
How paying a bit of interest is going to put you on the streets, I am not sure. Your credit score is just a number but your credit history matters - it is within your power to keep that sweet by reading your statements and paying on time if DD is not there.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans
