Selling a victorian terrace house, should I try to sell it myself (e.g. purplebricks)?

I'm nearing 60 now but looking at your decor I'd be mentally adding up the cost (and hassle) to re-carpet and redecorate pretty much the entire house. Bold, primary, contrasting wall colors and contrasting carpets will be putting off a lot of people I'd hazard a guess. You obviously enjoy that but I'd postulate a pretty large percentage of the population find it overwhelming. I'd imagine it's a similar reason as to why you only rarely see bright sunburst yellow or fluorescent green cars on the road. There's a reason that new housebuilders go through 1000's of gallons of magnolia/neutral paints a year1

Personally I'd paint the whole lot white or similar. I know lots of people house hunting at the moment, the majority of whom are completely work averse and would find the fact that they had to redecorate pretty much the whole house totally overwhelming.
We've been house hunting recently and even though I'd said to myself the decor wouldn't affect me and we wanted to do work to make it our own etc etc (we've gone for one that needs painting/ carpeting throughout, new kitchen, wall knocked down etc), it did affect me and I really had to give myself a slap and say it doesn't matter, we can change it! A lot of people don't feel that way and although I agree that they already know what to expect as they've seen the pictures, perhaps it's a little more overwhelming in the flesh!2 -
Cheers, makes sense. Although I look at other houses that have been painted generic magnolia and I think ugh that looks awful, it's not much difference in workload to repaint diluted wee colour walls than it is to repaint any other colours, *maybe* an extra coat of white, but it is what it is, psychological I suppose.0

I personally like your colour scheme, but it does take a lot more work to go from a dark colour to a light one without the darker one cheerfully 'grinning' through!0

If I do repaint some of the brighter colours, is magnolia really the way forward? Or should I just go straight up white? Although many whites always seem to advertise themselves as 'brilliant white'.0

I personally would go for white rather than magnolia, but I guess it's down to personal preference. It's a more striking colour than magnolia and would therefore fit in better if you choose to leave some of the tonally lighter colours as they are.1

All I can think is how bad the place looked when it was all white and depressing, it's really hard to want to repaint it white, I suppose if that's what people want though0
