I'm 61 and a big telly/film lover. But I'm rubbish when it comes to technology. I went into Currys the other day and felt lost lol there's so many. I'm not overly worried on price, just want something decent.

If you want the latest & greatest then go for latest OLED models from LG or Sony. You won't be disappointed with either.

Personally, I will be buying the Sony 48" OLED to replace my 42" Pioneer Kuro Plasma:

Having just replaced my 10 year old plasma TV, I would just add that whilst OLED TVs have a fabulous picture in relatively dark surroundings, they are not the best if you watch in a bright lounge or do a lot of daytime watching. I went for a Samsung QLED which has a very bright picture and a really good anti reflection filter, which is perfect for watching stuff in daylight hours.Highland76 said:If you want the latest & greatest then go for latest OLED models from LG or Sony. ALSO, worth looking at purchasing from John Lewis or Richer Sounds as they throw in extended warranties in the price.0 -
What makes you think you need a 4K Tv? As i understand it, there's still very little to watch in 4K.Perhaps someone can correct me?0

Allegedly, 4K upscales normal HD to give a better picture. Perhaps it's only noticable on 60" monsters, or perhaps it's my slight astigmatism - but I couldn't tell the difference between 2 x 42" tvs.Wobbly_Bob said:What makes you think you need a 4K Tv? Depends on your sources.
Will you have UHD and HDR sources?
If used to a plasma black levels you still need to consider OLED over LCD tvs.
What do you have now?

I do hope my Panny Plasma holds out a few more years, cos hell will freeze over before i pay £1500 for a telly!

You're right , but the choice of 1080p TVs is very limited -some stores no longer carry them. I would have been happy to replace my plasma TV with a similarly sized 1080p but no go!!Wobbly_Bob said:What makes you think you need a 4K Tv? I actually bought right at the end of 2019 stock so I "only" paid £929 for a 55" Q85R from Samsung!!I do hope my Panny Plasma holds out a few more years, cos hell will freeze over before i pay £1500 for a telly!0 -
Are you sure about that? This poster wasn't very impressed with their LG OLED television:Highland76 said:If you want the latest & greatest then go for latest OLED models from LG or Sony. You won't be disappointed with either.

It would appear that the OP has gone walkabout for the time being at least. Without a bit more info we're in the dark.Brewerdave, Currys still seem to have a few 1080p models on their webby:-https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/full-hd-tvs/televisions/televisions/301_3002_30002_xx_ba00011146-bv00309066/xx-criteria.html
