Any recent Halifax applicants?

Hi All,
Anyone who has applied for a Halifax mortgage recently? The waiting is really anxiety inducing. My timeline is as follows:
  • 13/08 - DIP received
  • 17/08 - full application submitted
  • 17/08 - hard searches on credit files
  • 18/08 - valuation instructed
We are currently waiting for the actual valuation to be booked in. Just wanted to find out if there are others out there who are in a similar scenario?

Yes, so far so good with Halifax. Submitted my full application on 20/08. Desktop valuation carried out the same day and I expect it would have been approved immediately if they didn't require a couple of changes to my employment reference letter. Sent the revised letter over to them this morning and got confirmation around lunchtime it had been approved. Not sure I'll really believe it until I've got the physical offer in front of me! Good luck!

How did Halifax contact your employer? We were told by broker Halifax reached out to my wife's employer on Wednesday and her employer is still.saying they haven't received anything. In week six now and to be frank I'm starting to lose patience!!!

Technically they didn’t. My original letter was provided to me by HR; I sent it to my broker who in turn supplied it to Halifax. Halifax then got in touch with the broker advising what changes were needed and supplying the email address to send it to. I then contacted my HR dept again, and they sent the revised letter to Halifax directly, copying me and my broker in. I think my broker then uploaded a copy to Halifax directly and followed up on the phone, which I imagine helped speed up the process.
  • Hi, I applied with Halifax and like you, found the whole thing absolutely unbearable, the waiting is horrendous - but they were actually fairly quick!  My timeline was:
    AIP - 09.07.20
    Offer Accepted on house: 28.07.20
Contacted Halifax to start application: 28.07.20
Full application done and credit check passed:  29.07.20 (told at this point it would go to the valuers and I would hear within 2-3 days)
Chased advisor at Halifax as heard nothing: 05.08.20 (advised at this point the valuation request had been cancelled and he would find out why...?)
Advisor got back to me and told me valuation was cancelled by accident and he has sent it back through - 07.08.20
12.08.20 - Advisor emailed to say all good and offer has been produced.  Think it was a couple of working days after that that I received the offer.
I'm in Scotland so the valuation part was just checking the Home Report which may be why it was perhaps a bit quicker than others?

Thanks for that. My broker have just told me Halifax have requested a reference from employer and then dropped off the face of the earth when I've asked what they want/where to send it.

Kingstreet on these boards kindly sent me a list of the standard info they requested and provided an email address of employmentreference@lloydsbanking.com, is this the address you sent yours to as we've decided to take matters into our own hands!

Do not use that email address for correspondence. It is for employers to send references directly and not via any third parties.

  • My partner got his halifax mortgage offer within 3 working days. We are too in Scotland  so home report was used as valuation. Only question asked from halifax was who the solicitor was. Very quick need.
  • My wife and I have applied to Halifax. I am self-employed and she is employed full time. We are now into our 3rd week with the application going on on the 6th Aug.

We are having a bit of a nightmare with Halifax actually. Questions about my tax and income which have no relevance to me which we have had to have our MA deal with. They have now started asking about certain aspects of tax stating they don't match with other documents when they do, they are all exactly the same numbers. Halifax have now asked I go to the expense of having my accountant provide an overview of the previous tax years based on the questions they have because they don't understand how the numbers add up!

It's just a simple SA302 and they claim it doesn't make sense because I have completed paying off student loans and when they do the calculation of £3000 - £1000 it doesn't equal £2000 to them (Not the exact figures but you get the idea!).
