Our local surgery has drive thru slots now for people who normally (pre-covid) qualify for the free jab

Diabetic nurse mentioned a separate pneumonia jab back in June but said it has to happen in the car park and was a lifetime one...........

My parents had the pneumonia one, Dad swears they told him it was a lifetime one, but they've been given them again this year.  He thinks they said lifetime because they didn't expect him to live long enough for another one, lol.

  • Some of our chain chemists appear to have a very liberal interpretation of the phrase "taking appointments" when it comes to getting an appointment for a flu vaccination. Understandably, the vaccine is rarer than a vegan at a Texas barbeque festival this year, but I've been trying to get a vaccination appointment for a month now. Both Asda and Lloyds pharmacies have told MSE that they are "taking appointments", when they're actually taking names and numbers and adding people to a big waiting list. While the Asda pharmacist didn't actually say, "don't hold your breath waiting for an actual appointment", she might as well have done.

Have you tried Tesco?  I went on their website, booked an appointment, turned up for the appointment and got a flu jab.

I didn't originally, because the nearest Tesco Pharmacy is about 30 miles away, but they've now stopped taking appointments in any event. On the one hand, it's great that people are taking the flu seriously this year, but as someone who's been paying for a flu jab every year for the past 10 years ("before it was fashionable", as I half-jokingly say), it's annoying! I've been trying Boots, Lloyds, Day Lewis, Asda and Well over the past month without success. My nearest Superdrug Health Clinic is 120 miles away. The main thing is that some are continuing to tell MSE that they are taking appointments, but they're really not.

I get an NHS flu jab every year, it is good that demand is higher this year but unfortunately the government increased the eligibility criteria without planning for it!

I've been getting one for years for health reasons and still haven't even been contacted. Neither has my over 80 yr old relative.

That's why I went to Tesco, I'd still be waiting otherwise.

I am not sure if this has been mentioned in this thread?   You think you get your flu jab and are immune but it takes 14 days plus for it to take effect.   I was told this by the nurse who gave me mine last year.
