my father in law has offered to take my husband shopping and buy us a big shop. We aren’t struggling financially that bad just yet. My husband issue back on the Spanish furlong scheme but I think his dad is worried it might take time to come through and just wants to help out with things like nappies, long life items etc. Should I count this spend too? What would you all do?
That's very kind of your father-in-law.
After a little thought, I think I'd count the spend in my Grocery Challenge total and then set aside the equivalent, putting it into an "Emergency Grocery Money Fund", as a cushion against the time when money dries up.

I was going to suggest something similar to Pip but put it aside into a bulk fund so you can top up the freezer and/or larder later on when money is a bit tighter.

So my £2.67 was burning a hole in my pocket 🙄. Reduced /YS fairy platinum, muffin and walls steak slice.
Found some change round the house and threw that and rest into the holiday funds jar.
We are empty (ish) now in freezer, fridge and cupboards. I'm trying not to panic. It's working well for us buying and just using what we need but I do have a wobble now and then about not having stuff in!

Hello all, slight correction to my previous total due to careless accounting, it should be £62.28/£200. Made Sami Tamimi and Tara Wigley's hummus from Falastin this am using ingredients I already had and it is delicious. It made enough for nine portions so that was good value and used up one jar of tahini too. Did a top up shop this pm for loo cleaner, some fresh salad, cranberry juice and a £6 bunch of white lilies. The last flower from the previous bunch began dropping its petals this am and I bought those on 24th August which means they lasted 17 days so I'm going to try to see if I can improve on that with these ones. Anyway that brings me to having spent £14.50 which makes my new total £76.78/£200. Keep on keeping on everyone and onwards and upwards to all, goldfinches.6

Hi everyone!Quick update re the L*idl app. Used my £5 off along with three of my active coupons resulting in an approximate £6 off! Every little helps as they say.
Wanted to make sure I would hit the minimum £25 so bought a lot of items to fill shelves or cupboards and also purchased a full bag of cleaning products for our house move. £37.67 down!
Have a good evening!Officially a homeowner 🥳🥳

£39.07 spent at the supermarket today, starting to stock up for the wedding festivities. Of course OH & I won't be here to enjoy the evenings with most of our kids, because that'd put us over the Rule Of Six, so we've had to book into a friend's B&B for the week that they're here! Now that was an unanticipated expense, but we're just really lucky we could do so; she's not officially open yet so wasn't booked up, & everything else around here is booked solid until the middle of October, even the campsites.
Anyway, the main grocery spend will happen tomorrow; I've been working out a vague meal plan but it will depend on what's available & what's a bargain, as usual.Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)5 -
Hi all,
Been in self-isolation so not spent much and used up plenty of bits and bobs out of the freezer. Got out yesterday and promptly spent £34.29 on milk, eggs, bread (and bread like goodies) a massive chicken, bacon and some snacky treats. Ok, it was mostly chocolate, crisps and fizzy pop as that's what we've couldn't get! I do need to shop for actual food too before the kids develop scurvy! Hope everyone's had a good week!
