TUI flights to Canary Islands in coming weeks

  • One media report indicating no flights extended a further week to 20th September now.
Looks like it'll be on a weekly rolling basis if the FO advice stays as is.

IIRC, there was some rumblings about Canaries & Balearics being treated the same as mainland Spain even though the # cases was low.
I wonder if government will revisit this in the light of their very recent decision to remove 7 Greek islands from the exempt list and keep the rest of Greece on it.

I'd like to think so. Sadly common sense and basic school geography has however been lacking so far.
I certainly think the Canary Islands should be reviewed and potentially added to the "safe" list.

Covid cases on the increase in the Canaries apparently - Gran Canaria is the worst going by reports.
We are headed there next month (in theory) hence my vested interest in how this plays out.
Update - TUI flights to Canaries pulled until 28th September.
  • TUI confirmed yesterday that flights to Gran Canaria departing up to and including 12th October have been cancelled - and we will receive full refund on flight and hotel bookings.
I assume this includes all flights to the Canaries within that period ?
We were not wanting to go (minor health issue) in the current circumstances, however I was prepared to hold my nerve and not cancel ahead of TUI, and then have to go down the travel insurance route.
Must say - TUI have been very quick to action the money back to my credit card.
