It's not a new licence but a new photocard.  Any points will go on the driving record for the licence that already exists.

I wonder what ATB means?  Perhaps I'm just being daft.

    Dear OP
As you know you will get the points on your new licence. As the police did not stop you, IMO, you will be ok as others have said therefore go ahead and apply as there is no other option unless you want to stop driving. The sooner you do it the better.
I'm sure that quiet a high percentage do forget and I'm trying to think back to a year or so ago if we got a reminder in the post for that, I beleive I did or my OH did the couple of years before that and that is what triggered my memeory about this, an easy oversight IMHO.
    ATB.
    ...they already have!

Not necessarily, it depends on the speed the OP was doing and if they are offered a speed awareness course.
True but they won't get that offer without a licence.

Please don't post misleading information as it does not help the OP.
Perhaps you have misunderstood. They have a licence, a UK Driving Licence is valid till the owner is 70 years old unless it has been revoked which requires the owner to be notified of such. The OP has still committed an offence by not updating the licence as a photo licence requires updating every 10 years. However that is a separate offence and does not mean the OP is not licenced to drive.

Priceless, from the person who thinks if its written on the Interweb it must be true.

I have now sent off for my new licence
The licence says three weeks to come but delay due to corona but hopefully it won’t be too long.

I hope you did not send the app in the post. As there is a massive backlog of unopened post from the time when Covid closed them pretty much down and they stopped opening the post.
Quickest method is online if you have a valid passport. If not going to a post office that has the facility to process the app and take a photo. List is on .gov website.

  • Thanks for all the replies I didn’t see past the first couple till today.
I did send for my new licence by post which said three weeks with possible delay but it took less than three weeks to come back. So that part is done at least and am fine to drive. Sent form back to Essex police to say yes I’m the driver and awaiting to hear back from them what my punishment is for speeding.

Tell us the alleged speed and the prevailing limit and I'll tell you what the likely outcome will be.
