hmm, is your normal billing date the 2nd of each month?  LRS normally commences from the start of the next billing cycle.
Yeah, my billing date is the 2nd of each month. The agent said that he will put the new contract through but the new pricing won't take effect until my next billing date (2nd September), and he will call me back on 2nd September to take payment for the LRS.

Do you recall whether the agent put the newly agreed broadband order on 'hold', perhaps for a day or two, to give you opportunity to go online and complete the LRSaver order, before they pushed through the new broadband-only order?

Not sure if this question was for me, but I'm not sure if the agent put the new order on hold to give me a chance to pay the LRS online. All I have written down in my notes is that he will put the new contract through but the new pricing won't take effect until my next billing date (2nd September), and he will call me back on 2nd September to take payment for the LRS. He's due to call me back later today, so I'll bring this up with him.

Plusnet have provided a pretty reliable service to me for the past few years.  Last year, due to their wonderful billing system with the staff correcting it then the system correcting it again, my annual cost was a minus amount :D This month MrsM's mobile bill was 9p, again down to an earlier billing foul up which the system corrected after CS credited against it 3 months ago :D It seems that CS cannot correct a bill but can only give a credit so when the system eventually notices an error it corrects it but cannot take the credit into account.

All new contracts commence from the next billing cycle.  If you sign up to LRsaver contract on the 3rd September, it won't start until the 2nd October.   Unclear whether Plusnet billing system can process new LRsaver to start on the 2nd, the same day as the new billing cycle......

The question about putting order on 'hold' was directed at 'brewerdave' if his LRsaver and broadband contracts have the same start date.   Agents can record a summary of the conversation/deal into a ticket and set a reminder date to action its contents.  They normally appear as 'Open Tickets' in the account.

Is LRS still worth it these days? I think LR is normally £19.99/month but if I pay it all upfront then I'll save £30 over the year or the equivalent of £2.50/month. Not sure what to do really.

Edit: The agent was aware of the LRS billing issue and put the LRS through before the new contract. Paid the LRS but sure if it's worth keeping. The agent said it's not a very popular product. I have 14 days to change my mind anyway although I'd be sure to cancel it before my next billing date. Also, I have the option of changing the length of the term to 24 months as long as I do this within 14 days, but I'd also make sure I do this before my next billing date.

No, they don't have the same start date, 4th July for phone and 13th June for b/band. He must have believed that I would renew ALR online as he sent me messages confirming the new agreed BB only price directly after the phone call. I think I used the online link to renew ALR the following day. Not sure what would have happened if I hadn't renewed because , AFAIA, Plusnet don't allow b/band only anymore.
Because I got a good deal on b/band ,I accepted that, if I move supplier next time ,I'll "lose" 3 weeks of line rental or have to pay standard line rental for a period.

I'm paying £35.98 for my Plusnet, I'm being robbed at the moment and I'm wondering what to switch to.

If I call Plusnet are they likely to offer me a good deal? I've been with them for 6 years. I ned a new router I have the original one from 6 years ago and my new Synology NAS (network attached storage) is finding the router is a big LAN bottleneck in terms of speed.

FWIW, I have been happy with plusnet for a couple of years until now. Always got pretty reliable service and a decent deal.
However,a couple of months ago I recieved a letter from BT saying someone had asked them to take over the line at my address. I also got a letter from Plusnet saying the same and telling me I was being charged earl termination fees for leaving in contract.
I phoned them and told them I hadn't asked to move supplier and wasn't moving out so didn't want the contract ceased. They said it was no problem and they would put a stop on the move. I was told that I need do nothing more as they would look after it.
Anyway, come the day it turns out my phone line has been cut off but the internet is still working.
Called them again and after several calls over several days it transpired that they would refund the early termination fees but I had to order a new service as they couldn'r re activate my old one. I agreed a price and place the order on the understanding that the fees would be refunded asap. 2 weeks later I have cancelled the order and demanded my refund (which they say has been posted to me) as it was getting nowhere.
So, at the moment I am looking for a new contract but in no great hurry as my internet is still connected at the moment. Im tempted to see how long it lasts.
  • Just about to start a new contract with Plusnet following 12 months with Shell BB. Most budget ISPs seem to offer a comparable service these days. Don't think I'd go back to Shell as their CS was almost non-existent. Have swapped between Plusnet and Sky for a few years, with Sky/NowTV being a fraction better with their CS

Was Shell ok for speed? Also do you get a new router when you sign up? Plusnet are offering £22.99 a month and my router is old and they say a new one would be £6.99 delivery.

Plusnet won't budge on £22.99 a month even though I mentioned the £100 Amazon voucher from Shell Energy.
