"You will appreciate that any payment we make comes from the public purse and we have a duty to the taxpayer to ensure that any payment is justified."Utterly shameless. It's laying a guilt-trip on you. Their first duty to the taxpayer is to do their job properly and correctly, then they wouldn't have to be concerned for them or the public purse subsequently.
But why should the taxpayer have to pay this, the individual(s) and their line managers responsible for the errors should be made to reimburse the taxpayer. That's a much better way to ensure such p*ss-poor, shoddy work doesn't recur.
You know what, I'd be tempted to rise to that statement and ask what are the financial consequences for the people responsible, suggesting that they should personally indemnify the taxpayer! Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

Updates…
Finally the CCJ is removed from my record, and no longer shows on my credit report. I’ve also got a court date… June 2023
Bad news is the outstanding ‘debt’ is still showing on my credit report with Lantern Debt Recovery. I don’t know when a debt would show normally, could it be before the court finds against?
I’ve got a complaint open, but not getting anywhere fast with it. I also note they have put the account date as Jan 20, with default June 20… despite the fact the alleged overstay was July 20.
Should I have this dragging down my credit score until the court date next year, or are they in the wrong?
thanks2 -
They are in the wrong unless that default from early 2020 is something completely different...?PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

99% sure this is to do with the parking ticket. Gladstones wrote 17/02/22 to say CCJ gone against me 18/01/2022 - to be paid within 1 month (I like how they write 1 month and a day after), and threaten amongst others to "transfer the matter to an enforcement agency". They want £294.35 at this stage. Then letter 10/03/2022 from Lantern wanting £355.17 - don't think I've heard from Gladstones since. Although Lantern haven't chased as far as I know either.
I don't have any other debts or defaulted accounts, so can't see what else this could be.
Waiting since 12th Oct for a proper reply from Lantern, they only replied to ask me for the exact same DPA information I put on the original email to them. Will update when I find out.
