  • Do you lose any other perks or benefits if you don't receive TC eg free prescriptions, dental or anything? If so, make sure the amount you earn covers everything you then lose.
It may be worth checking entitled to, just in case you can receive a bit of UC when your TC stop.
Again, I would rather mention it, just in case you haven't checked.

That app sounds good, I've been using a mortgage calculator site, but can't cross reference it to my outstanding mortgage until I get my first statement.

Yeah I would have been well over the tax threshold if I hadn’t had those 10 weeks off. I’ve just been talking to my friend and saying I’m probably just gonna bits the bulled soon enough and work for money rather than keeping hours down for tax credits.

I’ve got £20 a week going into the emergency fund accounts so that’s there for anything unexpected. Yeah I’m not planning to use any overdraft or credit unless it’s planned for.

Yeah the first 5 months have flew by! I seen someone recommend an app called Karl’s mortgage calculator... omg it is amazing! Calculates everything Down to the penny and the ltv for every month. It’s gonna be my new favourite app! I was playing with it last night looking at different payment amounts and monthly vs annual etc. Going off that I think 2024 I’ll be below 60% ltv which will be my opportunity to go for an offset mortgage X
i've just down loaded that app.........think i've got a new obsession

I already lost free prescription and dentist last year @MovingForwards and I’m getting fillings replaced this Friday which is going to cost £170... I think it was £65ish on the nhs but they had to be the silver fillings and I’m not getting any younger or better looking so I’d rather have my mouth looking whiter if possible even though it’ll cost me pennies.

I’m just relaxing this week, the kids are off with no schoolwork to do and we’re enjoying the peace. And playing on the Karl’s mortgage app! It really is good!

I’ve started doing the Tilly tidies I think they’re called and putting the odds from my current account into loft accounts every day or 2 so that’s slowly boosting the funds. I’ve spent very little the last week or 2 though so it’s just DP’s eBay habit that gets spent but he does give me cash if he’s buying stuff with my PayPal.

Just trying to work up the motivation to actually get the house ready to start probably mid march... I just know once we start there’s no going back. Dp has been in the neighbours loft and says his intention of taking the ceilings out of every room and lowering them won’t work as the joists are integrated into the wall or something. That’s good news for me as I was dreading disturbing the whole of upstairs it would have been a huge mess!

We might not do other bits like move the boiler up into the loft either which will save £1000. We had a chat the other night and the technology is changing so rather than spend money on the boiler it may be more economical to look at different heat sources in the future and the government grants that go with them.

anyway we need to get up there and make some real plans. Hopefully now the weather is thawing we can go up when I have my mojo!

There’s not a lot more to add! Money’s building up nicely. Will be even nicer when the new tax year starts and I can go back to 24 hours a week. I think the incentive bonus will end this month as the number of covid patients Is drastically reducing again and the staffing levels are improving. Aww well It was nice whilst it lasted and that’s basically all the loft money I have so far! Xx

  • Best to check and I agree about white fillings, that's all I would want.

Rounding the pennies makes a huge difference, it took 4 years of me telling sibling before they started.

Joists are slotted into the walls, to move them means making new holes for them to slot in. A lot of effort for a few inches and not one you want to be doing while living in the property.

The green grant is ending soon, but that did cover alternative heating. Not cheap so definitely get saving.

  • Morning! I have the dentist today at 2 😭 dreading it. I’m scared and embarrassed at the same time. It’s like torture and I’m paying for the pleasure too.

I’ve just made another £20 op to the mortgage and £35ish to the loft fund. I’ve decided I’m gonna leave money in the current account to treat myself this week as I’ve ‘put away’ about £2800 since new year in the loft fund, emergency fund, mortgage and paying off the credit card and catalogue so I just want a little week where I’m gonna get the kids some clothes and bits and hopefully myself too.

Rounding down the current account is making a big difference to the loft fund and feels less painful than transferring hundreds at a time.

I spent yesterday cleaning and jet washing the back garden and patio! It was filthy.. next doors shed building had caused loads of debris to fall into our garden and it was worse than most years. It made me really happy though. I just love being outside. Hence me doing the driveway last September, it was basically an excuse to get out! There’s a lot of painting needs refreshing in the back but it’s still too cold. Some of the paving still hasn’t dried from yesterday it’s that cold. It’s jobs to keep me entertained through the summer though!

Thats it I think. I hope I’m not going through a slump! I just feel mean syphoning all the money to the mortgage and savings when the kids could do with a little something now x

  • Good luck at the dentist.
Rounding makes a huge difference, as does moving a pound here and there.
Winter jobs are inside, the other three seasons are mainly outside, careful plans can get it all done.

The kids need a roof over their head and happy parents. When the weather picks up and they're on term / summer holidays, you can do things as a family. As much as you want to give them the world, teaching them values will stay with them for life.

  • Yeah it’s not so much giving them the world as getting them clothes that fit lol! They’re like beanstalks and never stop growing. Ds only turned 7 last week and is in age 10-11 clothes now so he’s the same height and clothes size as dd2 who is 9. My 12 year old is the same height as me now at 5”4 so she’s gone into ladies clothes.. she’s into the goth phase at the minute which is actually just her black boots and skirts... she gets quite a bit from charity shops and car boots so definitely not spoilt with brands here.

Fingers crossed for the dentist! I’m feeling really anxious now. Wish it was a morning appointment x

  • How about a clothing allowance bonus, on the provision it's only to be spent on clothes?
It's hard wearing a black as the shades don't always match!

How'd you get on at the dentist?

  • The dentist went great. Don’t get me wrong it was horrible but the results were fab. She only done one side but really polished it so it looks lovely and clean now. I didn’t have to pay today. Got to go back on 4th March and pay then.

Just been on a little online shopping spree spent £60 on 5 sets of clothes for me and the 2 girls so not really excessive but a few bits to get us through spring/ summer. I’ll probably have a little chunk of money left on Thursday so if I do that’ll go to the loft/ op funds.

I get loads of hand me downs for ds and have a decent bag of ‘to grow into’ designer clothes in the airing cupboard. I know loads of them will fit him by the summer and they’re mostly
shorts and tshirts so I’m gonna drag it out with him. Especially as he barely wears clothes anyway as he’s either in his school uniform or pj’s I don’t think I need to buy him much now.
