Hello! Hope everyone is well! Home school has been shut down in this house as the teacher can’t cope and the students are wild 🤯

I get my payslip with the bonus tomorrow so have had itchy feet to start getting stuff done. I’ve messaged loads of architects about the loft but they just do plans/drawings and I need a building surveyor who does calculations so I’ve managed to find 3 in the surrounding area so waiting on quotes from them. If they come in around £500 I’ll get that done ASAP as knowing what beams we need will enable us to plan for the floors.

I’ve jigged and jigged the layout in my head and the cheapest option would be if we could get 2 single bedrooms up there we could keep our large bathroom then on the first floor and have a little study by the new stairs. If we can only get one bedroom then it would need an en suite as the bathroom would have to be swapped with the smallest bedroom and we’d have a tiny shower room for a family of 5.

Check out my diy plans! This is upstairs as it is now. Our window to do the work is gonna be April-September so not that long really. I want to keep it as basic as possible to keep the costs down. We can always add fancy things in the future but right now we just need separate bedrooms for the kids.

I didn’t make any overpayments last Friday and won’t be this week either. Getting the loft done will be priority at the minute. Got £20 a week going into the emergency fund so I’ll leave that ticking itself over. It’s at £145 already.

Roll on tomorrow night when this payslip goes on! I’m either gonna be really happy or really grumpy lol x

Got my payslip! Bonus was £1250 but I had £645 in deductions so a bit annoyed but it’s still better than a kick in the teeth. I am just going to work full time from now on and pay off that student loan. I can’t keep spending my career dodging the student loan deductions indefinitely.

I’ve had 2 quotes back from the building surveyors. One for £900 + vat so £1040 I think. The other is £835... I’m gonna give it till Friday to see if I get anymore back.

I haven’t spent a lot this week anyway. Should have gone shopping today but it’s so cold and wet I’m waiting to see if tomorrow is any better.

I’m only working Sunday this weekend. The bonus has also took me to the threshold for tax credits so I’ll end up owing them a few grand no doubt now. I’ll have to cut down my hours for the rest of the tax year to avoid it.

Thanks! Made up I will be in credit by £1000 now which is a good starting point for the year to build upon. I’ll have a couple of weeks off in March so hopefully get a bit of a tax refund.

Update my spreadsheet and my net (cash- mortgage) value has gone from -65,778 on 1st September to -62,616 now so that’s a decent improvement especially when I had 10 weeks out of work in that time. It makes me really keen to get an offset mortgage at the 5 year point. We’ll see what life’s serving me then! I’ve only had 5 months of homeownership upto now.

What design have you come up with for the loft? You can't give us half a house to see what you're doing 😯

The leftover bonus is still good and helps boost funds.

Wow! That's a lot off your mortgage and you've made a great dent in it 🤗

Haha as soon as I know I’ll show you @MovingForwards I need to find out how much usable space I have with the surveyor/ architect. I did do a rather grand plan but that’s not doable either budget or space wise lol!

I’m in bed watching grand designs now in my element! I love anything to do with house buying/ renovation x

  • I've been watching all the S.Beanie shows.
You can still mess with configurations, just estimate your space to be a lot smaller, then when you get your numbers you've got a starting point 😁

I love her. She is basically another version of me but if I had money. Even the way she is with her husband and kids! I remember watching her years ago when it seemed like she was permanently pregnant lol.

I’ve just chopped off the en suite and the little study area by the stairs lol as they’re not gonna fit or be in budget! I’ll be happy with 2 plain bedrooms where the kids can have their own space! X

  • Ideally you need a toilet up in the loft, even if it's the one with the built-in sink. Maybe find another space for the little study area.

Do you have a lounge and dining room downstairs or just a lounge and kitchen?

Watch the one where she buys a big listed building and wants to turn it into a home and wedding venue. I had to double check how many kids she has as all the different shows she was pregnant, but getting stuck into helping people 😂
