Wrong flooring installed on a new build a week before completion

Options
Hi All,
Just got back from visiting my new build and as the title suggests they installed the wrong flooring, we are set to complete on Friday.
Any ideas on the best method to get this resolved?
The developer has suggested they may offer me compensation for the error but can provide any details until Monday. I actually want the flooring I have ordered installed, I cant see this happening before Friday so its going to be a massive inconvenience. I expect them to foot the bill for another snagging survey and any costs of furniture removal and storage and hotel costs while the floor settles. Would you expect the same or more?

Fair enough, thanks for your opinion.
The survey costs 450 pounds and is booked for the 20th, I wanted the flooring included in that.
I understand people have flooring fitted without moving out all the time but that's by choice isn't it. The burdens now on me to at least move my furniture to suitable storage and take time off work due to the developers mistake.

No, sorry, you are being unreasonable.

Mistakes happen. This is an easy one to resolve. Yes, there might be a little inconvenience to you - but certainly not to the point that it's reasonable to delay move-in and expect them to absorb all the costs of it.

How much flooring are we talking about, anyway?

Why do you need storage, just get it moved from room to room.

Guess I am overreacting but moving is stressful enough. Its the entire ground floor so I will need to move a washing machine, dryer and a 2.5 meter sofa to name a few items. Then move then back without scratching up the floor.

I had my 2-bed flat done in one go - part carpet part laminate. Neither I nor the furniture went anywhere (there was no bed in the main bedroom though) - it just got shunted around and I'm not sure whether any of it even left the room while the floor was done.

Your main problem is likely to be getting them to arrange a date and not keep putting it off.

    What sort of floorings?

Some needs a period in the property before laying

    How wrong is it?
    What was the cost?
    Would free be an option.

  • Speak to your solicitor. Can you delay completion? Can you hold some of the purchase price back until the flooring is rectified? Can they not just fit the correct flooring before completion?
It's annoying no doubt but there are remedies.
