First Direct to switch to MasterCard Debit Cards

Although I agree they look a bit rubbish with that arrow on there, I must admit the chance of my FD debit card (or any debit card) ever seeing the light of day is slim to nil so however they look is a bit irrelevant to me.I can’t remember the last time I used any debit card. Even my credit cards are only taken out in case Apple Pay doesn’t work.1

You'll have to excuse my slightly questionable photoshop work but I think the space could have been better used, especially with them spending (presumably) a lot of new money on the logo and not using it on the new cards.
Although it seems HSBC love the branding in the right-hand corner which is probably what the group brand rules are for designing cards. With the L/H space taken up by the lion on HSBC cards, it just looks odd with nothing there on the FD ones. Perhaps they could have used the new 'fingerprint' design in the corner?

I'm glad they didn't use the new logo on the cards! It would make then look worse in my option, though I'm not a fan of the new logo..1

One good thing is that you can't miss the fact that it's a debit card. I have nationwide debit and credit cards and am forever nearly using the wrong one - yes it probably is my failing eyesight.0

It's a huge improvement on their previous design, which was a mess.
I hope some of the credit cards I use start doing this flat design soon, as far as I know the only Mastercard credit card with this design currently is the Virgin Atlantic one?1 -
I like the new debit card and it's certainly an improvement on the old design. I always thought having the words First Direct on their side was a ridiculous design choice and I'm glad they've dumped it.
I think most customers will be happy with the new minimalist design.0 -

First Direct customers always like the all black features of the cards...which they have kept. I think the one thing they haven't cottoned onto is portrait cards. I wonder how many customers will be ringing saying their cards are damaged in order to get a new card!0
