Anybody successfully using HSBC Business Mobile App to scan cheques?

Fortunately nearly all of my customers pay by direct bank transfer but I still get the odd cheque that needs paying in. I have just tried scanning in a cheque on the business app. to save a trip to the branch but I just cant get the app to capture the cheque image - I get either an error message inviting me to try again or a 'helpful' tip like hold the camera steady or turn on the flash but nothing I try seems to coax it into actually capturing an image.
There is no 'shutter' button to press so I assume that once the app recognises the cheque it automatically captures it but all I get is a couple of concentric boxes with a dot in the centre which I use to get the camera parallel to the cheque but still no joy.
Am I doing something wrong or is the app. basically Cr*p?

Assuming it's the same as the personal app, all you need to do is make sure the cheque is on a dark background like a desk so that the boundaries are clear and then hold the phone so the 4 sides of the cheque are within the thick bars (they turn green).
The app will then take the picture itself1 -
I recently posted a similar thread about the Barclays app and scanning cheques. I have pretty much the same issue as you - sit there holding the phone/camera for ages and it never detects the cheque/takes the photo. My suggestion would be to try different backgrounds / lighting conditions to see if that helps, but you are not alone

I've used the HSBC app loads of times for cheques without an issue. Trick I've found is to use good lighting and a contrasting background (I place the cheque on a wooden table). Sometimes need to move your phone a bit closer or further away from the cheque.1

Fortunately I have other bank accounts. I have successfully paid several cheques in to my LLoyds account via their app.1 -
After many failed attempts at using the app I ended up just visiting the branch and paying the cheque in manually.
I have neither the time or inclination to set up a photographic studio complete with ambient lighting just to pay in a cheque.
In my experience the app is not fit for purpose and judging from the reviews on the Play Store site I am not alone in thinking that.
Thanks for all the input and shared experience.0
