We had a parcel delivered by Hermes yesterday.
It came when they said it would to the right place.
I think this may be a first!!!

I’m away from home at the moment and expected Hermes to attempt delivery again tomorrow. However they took it upon themselves to leave it with a neighbor even though I didn’t request it in the app

who is in the wrong here ?
    You are!

You have opted for a bottom end of the market delivery service who charge peanuts yet you expect them to keep coming back until you happen to be in!

Pay a bit extra and buy from somebody who uses a decent delivery service if it bothers you that much!
That's crazy talk because you don't always know which courier a seller is using, until a parcel arrives. Or doesn't, as the case may be.

Mental health issues are so difficult. You can't just stop being paranoid about it!
There's really nothing you can do just now. Hopefully you have got your delivery and everything is fine.
Going forwards, you can usually add a note to a delivery such as "do not leave with neighbour" or you could put a note on your letterbox saying if there is no answer then please don't leave with neighbour.
Do they have the option to delay? I don't know about Hermes, but DPD offer to change the day of delivery if you aren't going to be in.

Got my parcel all ok. Just got concerned they left it with a neighbour instead of coming back tomorrow

    thanks !
Think you have to give these delivery people a bit of a break, given the current circumstances. A friend of mine delivers for a courier, it's a thankless task but she's happy to do, it if people are kind. The pay is peanuts. Sometimes they have to use their initiative and sometimes they get it wrong. But sometimes, in her experience, neighbours have offered to take in a parcel when someone is out. Most people don't mind doing a favour for their neighbours, they are usually honest and I'm sure everyone's just doing their best.

Glad you got your parcel okay.

Whenever I buy something online, it's the retailer that chooses the delivery firm, not me.  I don't think you can blame the OP for the use of Hermes.

and you choose who you buy from.
If its an important factor who the carrier is then ask before purchase

Whenever a delivery person knocks on my door with a parcel for the neighbours, I explain there's a £5 charge for the service.  This is since I have a load of parcels for a neighbour who I found out had gone away for SIX WEEKS.  I had them cluttering-up my hallway for ages.

Understandably, no-one has ever taken me up on the offer, but these companies charge for a service - why should I do their legwork for them?
