BMW not straight on charges

Somebody must not have told my BMW X3 because every time I turn it on it will display the month (24 from last service) or miles after which (20k less miles done rounded) in which it needs a service. It explicitly refers to this as a service.neilmcl said:
Actually they're not. As mentioned, they're on what they call Condition Based Servicing (CBS), which is variable and based on the condition of individual service items. For example you may get an oil service come up at 18,000 miles then a brake check at 22,000, although most service centres would bundle them both in at the same time if they were that close together.JohnDorian said:
Most BMWs are on 24 month/20k miles service intervals so not really all that different to most manufacturers when taken on an annual average.CasualBagger said:
True enough - it's only £430 for a petrol 3-series. Bargain.Grumpy_chap said:
Although the OP did not say what BMW they drive, there is nothing 'random' or 'typical' about an M3. Not even amongst BMWs.CasualBagger said:
I just picked a random 40k mile M3 on Autotrader and ran it through BMWs website cause I was curious.Grumpy_chap said:£680 for a "full" service seems extortionate. Are you at the age / mileage where you need a cam belt change or similar?
Arrived at £695 for:
- oil and filter
- climate control filter
- air filter
- spark plugs
So yeah circa £700 is normal for BMW. I think some of the engine layouts require you to take the engine bay apart to change spark plugs.
The moral of the story is simply this: Don't buy a BMW.
This is similar to the service other manufacturers refer to and the post you quoted was referring to that specific cost - which, while it may seem more than other manufacturers, it is based on twice the time/mileage of those manufacturers.0 -
I believe some still use the 'traditional' age / mileage based servicing - I know my 530d does.JohnDorian said:

Sounds like the garage have reset the service indicator at MOT time, and not actually serviced it.ps124 said:Apart from the MOT stuff, new tyres, etc...no I can't think of anything. The light has never shown up. I took it to BMW in the last year of my service and they said only bring it when the light shows up.The 'ANY' in capitals obviously means you think its not right?
Can we have the reg, so we know which car to avoid when you sell it on?

That may well be it. May be it is the 3 litres as mine is the 35d.mattyprice4004 said:
