    We're averaging 7kWh a day heating a 300 litre tank, although I guess we're gaining some days by not having used it all and the insulation keeping a significant amount of heat in until the next day.

    We are all electric but use n 11kw heatpump for heating and hot water. At this time of the year we can heat the 200 litre hotwater tank with about 1.5kwh of leccy and we use about 6kwh a day for cooking, computers, freezer, fridge and other stuff. Days when the dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer increase it to 10-15kwh. Our annual average is 7200kwh = 20kwh a day because in the winter the heating can ramp up to 50+kwh a day if it's everso cold.
    We live in a fairly large (140m2) detached bungalow, built in 1986 with doubtful rockwall insulation in the walls, decent roof insulation (300mm) and 1999 double glazing. We are also at home all day so the heating can run for nearly 24/7 in the depths of winter.

    @Wobbly_Bob
    It's fairly easy to work out yourself - 7200 x (say) 13p is £936 add s/c and VAT = approx £1100

    @Wobbly_Bob
    Whats the unit rate you are paying ?
    Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

    It's 7200kwh at 12p = £864 plus 365 at 15p = £54.75 which equals £918.75 (£76.56mo) however that deal is finishing at the end of August and I'm going onto a tariff at  10.969p/kwh plus 24p/day which equals £789.77 + £87.60 = £877.37 (£73.11mo) however Symbio have introduced a "seasonal" DD which equates to six months at £86.25 and six at £59.98 which suits me as it roughly follows my consumption profile.

    Most years we use a bit less than 7200 and I'd expect to get around £20-£30 back but this year because we haven't been away as much we will be virtually spot on (I'm guessing within 10kwh)

    Yes Robin, thankyou for your assistance. However i imagined that it would not be a simple sum, and that some peculiar (to me) tariff mechanics (off-peak etc) would be employed.
    matelodave, 10.97p/kwh looks like a very good price. I will be renewing soon, and the best (DualFuel) tariff i could find was 13.99p/kwh on approx 2500kwh with £95 SC.
    Is it so low because of the quantity of Lec?

    @Wobbly_Bob Dump the dual fuel idea and you'll find cheaper electric rates.  Symbio's variable rate is 10.9p

    We use from 8 to 15 kWh  of gas a day for 2 showers a day, washing dishes 3 or 4 times a day and cooking  once or twice a day.
    Just showers is 9 kWh a day.
    All from my smart meter IHD.

    Do as  Talldave suggests, ditch the dual fuel tariff and look for individual quotes, you'll probably find that you can get your gas and leccy for a lot cheaper. The cost advantages of a dual fuel tariff are long since gone.

    To answer your q about the quantity of leccy, no I dont get a discount for volume but you can see how a penny or so on the kwh cost makes a far larger difference than nearly 10p on the s/c for a higher user that it does for a low user. As our heat pump runs mainly during the day and evenings and minimally during the night (unless it's everso cold) I can't see any advantage in getting an off peak tariff so I just go for the cheapest.

    I change companies frequently (ten in ten years) and I've been with three companies that have folded but they've all saved me money -  hundreds, possibly even a grand or two over the years, so I'm happy to put up with any hassle (I treat it a bit like sport)
