House being used as a show home without my knowledge

Thinking about things a bit more...If it is a show house, then they'll be wanting to ensure everything is tip-top and tickety-boo; the last thing they'll want to show to prospective buyers is a house which is worn out and has issues.2

One thing I do recall about viewing some hoses a while back was one had a lovely front lawn, but later-on in the development there was another house built on it.

Lol! That was our exact thoughts at the time! Daughter crying, wife enraged! 🤣clearancer said:
I'd be standing at the door of the sales office waiting for them to open. My first thought would not be that its a show home, my first thought would be that someone gazumped me and moved in!leeb1977 said:Hi, I’m after some advice.
I reserved a new build house last week, it’s build complete, ready to move in. Just need to finish the sale of ours and exchange contracts etc..
We live local to the house so went for a walk up there last night to have a look, and it’s been fully furnished.
Can they do this? I’m now concerned they’ve done this to show people around like a show home, so we’ll have people going through our place constantly before we move in, potentially ruining carpets, etc.
Also, any furniture will obviously leave impressions in the carpets, marks on walls.
Overall, I’m just surprised they’d do this, I’ve dropped the sales office a line, but interested in everyone’s thoughts.
Thanks,
Lee
I’ve contacted them this morning, and the answer is they’ve moved the furniture in from another house, and will show people around if interested in our house type, but nothing permanent, and they’ll make any issues right before exchange, so hopefully ok.
If they’d explained that at the start I’d have been fine, just does seem a little underhand, or just basic communication skills lacking, considering we see / speak to them most dates.0 -
At the time of putting this on, they weren’t open, was just trying to get opinions, but have now, and am slightly better about it all now as above, just think it’s a lack of communication.pinkteapot said:Have you actually asked the developer why there’s furniture in the house?1 -
Is the carpet in the 'show house' the one you have chosen?.....just a thought that you could insist on your own choice if it isn't.

It was already in there, and it’s nice, so can’t complain. It’s more, firstly cleanliness, but also, you know when furniture has been sat on carpet for some time, you get dents that never come out, we’re worried about that. But still, they’re saying they’ll sort it, so hopefully it’ll be ok..JGB1955 said:Is the carpet in the 'show house' the one you have chosen?.....just a thought that you could insist on your own choice if it isn't.0 -
Guess it's like with new cars. Car dealers just stick 50 miles of test drives onto every car they sell these days as it's cheaper than having dedicated demo cars.0

Have a tour round with a tape measure and see if the beds are full sized.
And make sure they put the doors back into their frames
doors between the living/dining still in the garage.
Sorting out the bodged decoration was the big job.1 -
Generally, the 'finish' ( The bits you can see ) on a Show House is picture perfect, but take good care to read the Energy meters as soon as you have the keys - Why? There is a development close to me and the lights in the Show House are blazing 24/7, and it would have been be cosy and warm in winter.0
