No comfort at all to the OP now, but if my disability required a reliable automatic car, but my budget limited me to a 2008 vintage or thereabouts, I'd be looking at maybe a Honda Jazz CVT, not a Pug 207?No free lunch, and no free laptop

There's one statistic that says everything about the predicted reliability of a 12yo car...shaun_from_Africa said:
A 12 year old car can be less reliable, equally reliable or more reliable than a far newer one. It all depends on the car and the history of the vehicle and how it's been maintained.jimbo6977 said:A 12 yo car will not be reliably reliable so to speak.
I've owned quite a few cars that have been well in excess of 12 years old by the time that I got rid of them and I've never had an unreliable one.
The average age of a car at scrapping in the UK is 13.9 years.

That calibrates and frames "reasonable expectations" of a 12yo used car, in terms of CRA15.0 -
The OP is disabled and needs a car, but had no problem walking for 45 mins...0

You have won today's award for demonstration of ignorance.
No wonder disabled people have such a hard time.

Where in that report does it state that the reason for the majority of the cars getting scrapped is due to poor reliability? A lot of people get rid of cars simply because they want something newer, something more fuel efficient or something with more bells and whistles and not because of reliability issues. There's one statistic that says everything about the predicted reliability of a 12yo car...

Another point is that your link refers to cars with an average age of 14.2 year old and I was replying to a post about 12 year old cars so on average a 12 year old car has more than 2 years to go before it will get scrapped.

Not every disability is to do with walking, think before you speak.Supersonos said:The OP is disabled and needs a car, but had no problem walking for 45 mins...

Thank you everyone who gave advice and support but after these comments I am going to leave this here as I already felt like an idiot but feel like even more of one now.No comfort at all to the OP now, but if my disability required a reliable automatic car, but my budget limited me to a 2008 vintage or thereabouts, I'd be looking at maybe a Honda Jazz CVT, not a Pug 207?

Don't be concerned about the comments on here, here in the motoring section you might get 1 or 2 good answers and then it generally turns into a pi$$ing contest between 2 or 3 of the posters, and there is always one or two who do the Harry Enfield "what did you buy that for, you should have bought one of these". I would say that the garage has a liability to look at it, but it sounds like they are cowboys (i guess you didn't pay a lot for the car), the best advice from the above is to take it to an independant Peugeot garage to get it looked at.

So why mention it? If you can walk 45mins, you don't "need" a car any more than anyone else "needs" a car.bbpet said:
