  • Have AVRO set you up on the right readings now then?
Yes, they have the right reading and going forward I'm being billed correctly.

Are AVRO and nPower using different figures?  If so bang their heads together and insist they use the same figures.  It doesn't matter what they are as long as they are the same, any overcharging will be small and it's just as likely to be in your favour.  The third party meddling is daft but that's the way it is and you won't be able to change it.
If push comes comes to shove, send the same formal letter (headed COMPLAINT) requesting a deadlock letter to each company and get a free certificate of posting.
If no luck, go to the Ombudsman after eight weeks.

What's a deadlock letter, do you have any templates I could send both? I presume I could email them rather than posting.

A deadlock letter means that the company and yourself have reached deadlock, i.e. you've reached the end of the road, you can't agree.  Just summarise your complaint, make sure it's headed COMPLAINT, and ask for a complaint number.  Royal Mail is better because it's deemed to have been delivered, and the Certificate of Posting backs it up.  Then the clock starts ticking.
  • Avro has just come back to me. As expected :

"In order to have these readings changed I would have to raise a dispute. To raise a dispute, your proposed transfer readings must be outside of the industry wide tolerance ranges of 250 units for electric and 120 units for metric gas. Unfortunately, both your readings are well within this range and so we would not be able to raise a dispute, any attempt to do so would be automatically rejected."
Shall I press on with the deadlock letter?

You haven't answered @Gerry1's question as to whether NPower's closing bill and Avro's opening bill are using the same readings?

If they're different, have you gained or lost out? You have to pay for the period of time until you switched,  so the only possible issue is double charging for overlapping readings.

No, Npower's final bill is based on inflated 'estimated' readings as Avro have not provided them with the correct ones. This is despite me providing Avro with these.
My reading at the end of may was 92074 for electricity. For gas, it was 320830.
On the 10th of July Avro sent Npower a reading for 92227 for electricity and 32148 (missing decimal!)  for gas. By contrast, my last reading as of the end of last month was 321091 for gas and 92259 for electricity. So that's 4 months worth of electricity I'm being charged for June!!
I'm not worried about overlapping amounts, I'm worried that I'm being charged grossing inflated meter readings by Npower despite me providing the correct ones to Avro (who then didn't pass those on?)

  • Ah forgot about the tolerance policy. How much are you missing out on?

Do you mean bills wise? The Npower bill is coming to about £80 for the combined usage on their standard tariff in June. By comparison, my first bill for July with Avro based on my actual meter readings is £18. I was only been staying in the property part time at that point. So you can see I'm missing out quite big.
