You still need to pay £40.11 for the electricity you've used

You have unwittingly entered into a deemed contract with nPower, which will be expensive. You need to pay it PDQ.When regaining or moving into a property, you always need to register with the existing supplier(s), which may not be the same as when you let the property. You can find out the electricity supplier by going to your DNO's website, and the gas supplier can be found by visiting https://www.findmysupplier.energy/webapp/index.htmlnPower will probably have blocked your switch to Avro, so you'll have to start again after you've settled everything with nPower. At least it's a relatively small sum because it's summer !1

29th May?! So not the 29th July then?Flatulentoldgoat said:
Could it be that Avro screwed up my switch? AFAIK, tenants cancelled their supply for the 29th of May. This house has been tenanted for 5 years!bradders1983 said:
The fact the OPs tenants left on the 29th, and that letter dated the 29th suggests there was a bill 7 days previous, does suggest it had been in the name of the OP for some time.rp1974 said:Maybe Im just not getting this, your former tenants bill is in your name,how/why did that happen?.
In which case that bill is a month and a half or so of standing charges then.
You only said the "29th" in your opening post so everyone here probably thought you meant the 29th last week.0 -

Yes that's right. They moved and settled on the 29th of May. This bill is out of the blue. Just checked the findmysupplier. It's got AVRO as my Gas supplier but nothing about my electricity supplier.

You never said May. You just said "the 29th". The obvious assumption we all made was the 29th last week.
Given the info above, the bill from EoN will be a month and a bit of standing charges, for electric, probably to cover the period between your tenants going and the switch going through, so it may be based on an estimated bill.

It won't: it's only for gas. Find out who is your DNO, then visit their website.Flatulentoldgoat said:Just checked the findmysupplier. It's got AVRO as my Gas supplier but nothing about my electricity supplier.1 -
That makes more sense,I assumed that OP meant 29th June and not 29th May.8/9 weeks worth of standing charges and associated use during that time possibly amounts to this amount,if not occupied during this time still seems on the high side to me,but possible. And again not in the tenants name,in the OP'S who allows this?.bradders1983 said:

So is there anything I can do to challenge this?? Or is the advice here just pay up which could've on post #2....

It says Energy Power Networks, nothing about Npower

Challenge what? It takes time to perform an energy switch and this bill is more than likely the bill between tenants leaving on the 29th May and the switch being completed. Someone has to pay the standing charges for that period and as the owner of an empty property that person is youFlatulentoldgoat said:bradders1983 said:You never said May. You just said "the 29th". Saying that you need to acquire a copy of the actual bill (not the reminder) to see what meter readings they have used for the final EON bill. £40 may be higher than the true amount.
Its also worth checking that the switch for BOTH utilities was actually done properly whilst you are at it. Maybe even question how EON got your name.1 -
