Well today is the day, I start my 12 month countdown to mortgage freedom.
i will be officially mortgage free on 3rd May 2022.
12 payments left to go. It’s been a long hard slog at times, some years with large continuous overpayments, job loss, job changes along the way. Tightening of belt, increasing pension contributions as well, but I’m on the last stretch and feel like it’s finally coming together. Looking back when I started my initial MFW blog (Joining the Quiet Revolution) of which I forgot my password....doh, it’s great to see the journey. Like so many I started out on a 25 year term and immediately wanted to reduce this. I’m so glad I did.9 -

Back to work on Monday after a short break. Weather today not great after a decent 2 weeks. Couple of bits that need sorting on my 13 year old car which I can sort myself nothing major. Trying to balance my savings to see out the next 12 months after moving jobs and downsizing stress and salary. Hopefully retirement is on the horizon or further reduced hours. I’m enjoying the extra time off I have that my new job affords me. I have more time to get jobs around the house done and spend time with family. The trade off has been worth it. Had I not started the MFW journey in 2009 then this wouldn’t have been possible. Will update again in June (-11 on the countdown).4

Mortgage payment made, no overpayments as such, but 11 further payments to make then I’m officially mortgage free! Looking forward to getting into single months. Money is a bit tight at the moment. Spent the morning (before the rain came) getting some garden tidying done, it looks a little bit better but more to do. Hopefully with the bank holiday approaching I can get it looking even better. Anyway that’s my focus at the moment.7

Good news on the house valuation today. 2.5 weeks till June’s payment. Looking to add £1600 to the pension pot at the end of the month. Next step is to pay off the outstanding bank loan and the small CC debt. Excited to be heading towards Month -10.4
