Thankyou @savingholmes yes that is very much the focus now, switching from the balance of MFW and pensions to rebuilding savings and starting to roll more disposable income into SIPPs and workplace pension whilst being able to treat myself and my family a little more. Being MF will allow me to do that massively. I’m glad I made that first step after finding this forum, I’m very grateful that I chipped away at it early on.

Thankyou......Enjoying this warm sunny Scottish weather. See your Rutger avatar has been replaced however the Sunflowers are lovely. Yes I’m taking a “small tranche” to clear the mortgage, then it’s systems go to reach FIRE in 4 years and 9 months........

Lovely to be on a count down. I'm hopefully on an 8 year plan to coast fire - and will potentially use part time work to cushion my income. It does rely on being able to save lots now and liberate one earlier DB pension and transfer it.

That’s a very good strategy. I have a mix of DB and DC. I’m very happy to have the DB. The DC will support early retirement for a number of years alongside the DB. It’s good to have a plan and strategy in place. You sound very switched on so I’m sure you will achieve your goals. Part 1 of my plan to be mortgage free at 55 is about to happen. Part 2 of being retired at 60 with a decent income is on the horizon.

Thanks I'm lucky to have a DB pension in my current job too - so it opens up possibilities. I'm trying very hard not to envy you in being mortgage free (or nearly).

Thankyou, it has felt like hard work at times but the diary and support on here has helped. I suppose the biggest thing I feel is that I was able to “downsize” from a very well paid managerial position a couple of years ago.Having the freedom to do that and take away the stress has improved my health both physically and emotionally no end. I have more time to enjoy the things I want to do, so ultimately it’s a glide path for my future self. I started the real focus back in 2012.
