Wow! A positive result but it certainly took it's time coming. Do you mind me asking when did you put your complaint to the Ombudsman and how long did they take to get a response to you?

My timeline for any one starting out who wants an idea:

March: requested list of loans from Wonga
May: Wonga offered refund of 6 loans out of 10
July: Sent information to Ombudsman to request full refund (the 6/10 seemed completely random - they offered to refund the first and last loans and a random assortment between)

Now I am waiting for a reponse.
My complaint was handed to the adjudicator first....took 2 months to be assigned to an adjudicator. The adjudicator made their decision in October, Wonga refused to accept and told them to refer to the ombudsman.........it was only assigned to an ombudsman 2 weeks ago but this was, mainly, due to the fact that the ombudsman and Wonga have been locked in a long running battle since December last year.

Do you mean from my original complaint? It was acknowledged within 24 hours. Then they started playing silly beggers and stalling for time. I was far too accommodating and should have referred at the 8 weeks rather than giving an extra 6 weeks that they asked for.

I guess the difference with me is that Wonga accepted no liability whatsoever, not even a sniff of an offer. They even refused to send my statements.....2 days after sending them to me :rotfl:

The adjudicator partially upheld my claim and suggested redress for any loan over £150 which, to be honest, was only a few of them. The email exchange between Wonga and the adjudicator made for interesting reading (I was cc'd in) and the guy at Wonga can only be described as arrogant....he basically told the adjudicator that she didn't have a clue what she was doing and that this was all my own doing so refer to the ombudsman. The ombudsman have gone further and have made the final decision that I am to be refunded for loans 2-26........that did make me laugh!
  • Hi All

I used to be on the ball with these things back in the day. I got all my bank charges back before the banks won the court ruling. I also got PPI back on the one loan I had PPI out on.

However, I have only just discovered that people are starting to claim payday fees back. I know of three companies I definitely had these with, QQ, Wonga and Money Shop. Just looking at QQ, my fees total over £2k

My question is this, QQ covers a period of July 2007 to December 2011. Assuming QQ reject this, will the FOS even consider this timeframe? I have seen conflicting things about a 6 year rule but then the FOS considering any time frame. The other two companies are likely to cover the same period if not earlier.

    Thanks in advance!
  • Hi all,

Been having continued success with regaining interest and charges so far but Wonga's reply has got me considering whether to take it to FO or not and I would like advise on.

I borrowed 27 times from them between 2014-2017, and today after a month wait they have came back and have agreed to refund me the interest and charges on one of the loans back in 2014 worth around £68. Now if they are offering this one why only this one and not the rest? The total amount of interest that I calculate from that loan onwards that I took out is £700+ and fairly the same circumstances ie taken out straight after the last was repaid.

Does anyone think I will have much luck taking it further with the FO or should I just settle for it?
  • Hi
I've just accepted a refund of £2841 from wonga, any ideas how soon they payout?
    Thanks

  • Can I ask what happens if you do not have a response from the company after 8 weeks has passed?
    Thanks

just thought I'd write my story down...

Have had 17 loans with Wonga, in three separate instance of consecutive borrowing between 2011 and 2014. The total borrowed is almost £11,500 and interest just shy of £2,000. Due to the nature of borrowing - the value of each loan, consecutive months, increasing amounts and in one case after repaying one loan I got another on the same day - I feel I have a decent argument for a complaint.

Just wondering if anyone automatically added statutory interest @ 8% to their complaint and how was your success?

I've seen in replies here that Wonga were a bit ropey with their reply times in 2016, but nothing too recently - has anyone had recent success with them?

I have recently complained and accepted the offer. I didn't have all the details of the loans and just said I wanted them to look into it and refund me the money, as I went through a rough time and I hadn't kept any reminders of how stupid I was. Took them 8 weeks to reply and they came back with a decent offer, money I never thought I'd see again. I'm still waiting for the payment though.

  • I have today received an offer of around £1700 from Wonga for interest and fees on 5 of the 35 loans I had with them. It took them just over 7 weeks to come back to me. I believe they should take responsibility for more of the loans and pay a higher amount so am considering taking the complaint to the ombudsmans but would like to ask some advise first:
Will I lose the current offer if the FOS rule in Wongas favour?
How long does the FOS process take?
    Many thanks in advance :)
