What’s the going rate for brake discs/pads? Have I been overcharged

I don't think we know how long the garage took, other than the labour cost £180. Could have been 2 hours at £90 ph. Pretty sure they'd just use a set labour charge for a job like that - if they do it quicker then they are up, if not, they are down.1

main dealer garages will have a set number of hours allocated for jobs and charge labour at full hours so if they allocate 3 hours and it take 2.15 hours you still pay the full 3 hours, independents tend charge by the hour but again for full hours and not part ofPetriix said:I'm baffled as to how it could take a professional garage an hour per wheel. I remember standing in front of a main dealers set price list. I had just done a cambelt change on my car. Considering the amount of work it takes the cambelt change actually seemed reasonable value. The brake pads and discs seemed overly expensive in comparison. They are so easy to change. I suspect that they charge more than they should because they can get away with it. You can charge £300 for brake pads when they should be £180. You couldn't charge £1K for a cambelt change.0

You lose 15 minutes getting the keys and job sheet from the service desk, going to the car park to get it, driving it in and out of the garage (a decent garage will put on a seat cover, steering wheel cover and floor mat) and getting the parts from the parts department.Petriix said:I'm baffled as to how it could take a professional garage an hour per wheel. main dealer service and parts depts are there for a reason. we have so many instances where customer has taken there car to halfords, quick fit, abc motors or watever, and they done the job but they couldnt put the service light out, or theres a noise that wasn't there before. so we explain we can fix it but it will cost. if they come to us in the 1st place it would all of been done properly and sorted. you get what you pay for in life.bigadaj said:0 -
LOL definitely. The mechanics get exactly the same speed of service that a customer does from that department.JJ_Egan said:<and getting the parts from the parts department. >Eventually is the missing word .
