Ludicrous Parking Charge Discussion

Just about every thread on this forum is about ludicrous parking charges.
There are a few where a motorist has deliberately not paid, or knowingly parked where they shouldn't, which is why parking companies exist.
The extortionate charges for otherwise minor mistakes or infractions are ludicrous, but the most ludicrous of all are the charges issued to motorists for parking in their own parking space.I married my cousin. I had to...I don't have a sister.

I think this thread needs to take the agenda forward beyond standard PPC charges and advice given within the NEWBIES FAQ sticky or the individual guidance on standalone threads. It shouldn't be the place where newbies post their new cases and expect advice. Otherwise it becomes a total mess and the recipe for confusion and potentially costly misunderstandings. We've only just managed to have the NEWBIES FAQ sticky closed, as that was in danger of implosion with random cases being posted unmoderated. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Charges is OK, it is "fines" that regulars don't like but only because ..................... they aren'tGabiB said:
Ok, can I keep it at charges?Le_Kirk said:
We usually call then "speculative invoices" or "scamvoices" or "shamvoices"GabiB said:
I’m so sorry about the fine thing, I do understand they are not fines and are invoices which have little legal weight but I just used the term fines generically, if anyone can suggest a more appropriate title I will be more than happy to correct it.pogofish said:
Why? - This Board does has no truck with “fines” no matter if they are legal/legit or implied by the most fevered impersonation of authority.GabiB said:(I’ve started it as I am interested by ludicrous parking fines)
You would need to take this somewhere like Pepipoo, who do deal with legit enforcement but I fear a thread like this would last about as long as an ice cream in a blast furnace!1 -
I know, but as the term ‘fines’ is ubiquitous I used it (probably shouldn’t of though!)Le_Kirk said:

Fines are allowed by law. Councils, police, courts, schools ... (if you did not go the school, your parents can be fined)GabiB said:

Parking companies can only invoice and hope

On a more serious note ... if you find this arena of interest then you'll notice that all too many PCNs are leading to court claims. When it comes to court, correct spelling and grammar can make the difference between success and failure - a so-so defence presented well may be received better (by a judge) than a great defence presented poorly. If you make sure you use correct spelling and grammar whilst you are still young then it will serve you well in the future.
