    I do not wish to be adversarial either, and for the record I am not a Scottish Nationalist.  However, things are said on a daily basis by English people that annoy Scots (and presumably Welsh and NI people too).  I suspect that the English are not even aware of it.  Trivial example, I know, but the other day Peter Crouch described Prince William as the future King of England.  Yes, he is, but he is also the future King of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.  I would like to think that Santander did not know that we Scots pay our water bills with our Council Tax.  Maybe it's an oversight; maybe it's not, but it could be construed by some as discrimination. Just saying!  :-)
    He will also be king of Canada, Australia, New Zealand,  Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Grenada, Jamaica, Papua New Guinea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Solomon Islands, and Tuvalu. They weren't mentioned either.

    Try not to be annoyed on their behalf too.  😉

    As Sea_Shell has already mentioned, in Scotland and NI our water bills are incorporated in our Council Tax bills, so it looks like we will only have a Santander12 account from now on.  Did they not do their homework before introducing these cashback changes?  No wonder many people in Scotland want independence because this sort of thing happens all the time.
    I am not wishing to be adversarial but am genuinely interested in what other things happen all the time that are detrimental to people living in Scotland.

    @ElizaSue
    I think you have a point but was hoping you may have had some more examples from the banking or financial arena.

    Perhaps people in England would be glad if you got independence and then we wouldn't have to subsidise your free prescriptions under 60 years old and bus passes over 60 years of age any more. Have a lovely day!  😄
    I'm not going to dignify that comment with a reply, except to say that you obviously like to have the last word.  :)

    Sorry, I can't think of anything relating to banking or financial arena.  I was referring to the fact that time and again comments are made which fuel the fire of the Scottish independence movement.

    What leads you to think that if Scotland was indy, Santander would be offering you a cashback deal of equivalent value to that offered in the UK? They don't have the same deals, or even the same accounts, in all countries. They might even decide not to operate in Scotland if Scotland would cease to be part of the UK. Besides, there are Santander account holders in the rest of the UK who also don't qualify for cashback on water or other services. If it is all unbearable for you, vote with your feet and switch your account elsewhere.

    It’s not about Santander, more the way the four parts of the UK are treated differently. Santander‘s ignorance of Scottish and NI water bills is just another example of the assumption that what happens in England must apply to the whole of the UK.

    England has always been the dominant country of the four. Even James I / VI abandoned Edinburgh in favour of London.

    Apologies for going off piste.

    I came to the end of this thread about Santander 123 lite, having opened one myself after NatWest gave theirs the cut, to find troubles old as Shakespeare.
    And since spam is on the menu, and the bard has been mentioned...
    On that subject this English narrative that Scotland is a plebiscite on the general coffers is a tale told by an idiot. For the median GDP per Scot be higher than that of lowland Englishfolk, being more Scandinavian by nature, spacier of land and richer in the fuels of industry. Their generous affairs, oft mocked by envious England, are not by necessity, luxuries. A richer land affords itself richer, and thus yields unto itself a goodlier increase than might the second best achieve. Would accursed rebellion be ended, wishes Parliament, that we may leech their product in a neighbourly fashion undeterred by fear of sentiment.
    Would a mutual ignorance bless us all, not for bliss, but for the sake of our leeching, our noble reliance upon the first bastion of empire, made so by their own foolish bankruptcy in New Caledonia, whereas our capable ships turned fortune in the rest of the New World.
    Let the pipes and cheers run themselves hoarse and tired, do not give them the satisfaction of an enemy, but the patience of a friend. And should they yet still vote out, milk them dry as the labour of Africa, the minerals of India, the agriculture of America.

    @Seldonista,

    Impressive, although The Bruce predates Shakespeare by a few centuries.
