Money Moral Dilemma: I was sent free beer by mistake - should I keep it?

It might have been within 30 yards of someone who coughed once back in 1947...Hadders28 said:I should drink it quickly - otherwise it might go past its sell-by date
Are you sure you want to take that chance?1 -
There is no dilemma.
Do the decent thing.
This shows how society has changed. Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.0 -
Just call them....leave ball in their court, doubt they'll want it anyway. You won't need to actually do anything at all apart from that call.

No one has said anything about the courier. I bet everyone would guess it was H.......!

I've been in a similar situation with small items from ebay and the courier had not delivered, emailing me to say I was not in or reachable, I've emailed the sellers who have not even bothered to reply, so I kept items.--

If beer in quantity can be classed as perishable, I'd expect the supplier to tell you to keep both orders as, after all, you're not the one who's made a mistake. The next-best thing would be if the supplier pays for a carrier to return one order at its expense, or the carrier does so free of charge. Why not contact the firm, which will surely be only too keen to improve its status? Unless margins are extremely tight, I'm sure the firm could write the consignment off.0

I am sure if you tell them what has happened they will either let you keep it as a sign of goodwill or will arrange a free courier collection for its return.

As others say..contact the company.
They could even give you a really good deal to keep it at a stupid low price. At least then you will have a clear conscience.1 -
I would give them a ring and explain what has happened. At worst they could pick them up, at best they would let you keep them for your honesty. Try it otherwise they could find out and charge you for them. Honesty the best policy.1

Its not your fault. Just keep it for a week or two and if they dont ask for it, just enjoy it. Or IF they ask, and they probably wont, then offer to pay (at a discount of course).0

Tell the company that 2 turned up. It's not your fault but it could cause trouble somewhere down the line. Anything from them investigating the delivery driver to not believing you in future if an order actually does go missing. They may well say keep it, but if not, I'm sure they would arrange for it to be collected at no charge to you or give you the option to buy it.1
