Never assume, because it makes an !!!!!! out of u and me. ;)

The reality is that most people live in perpetual debt, because society has raised them to believe this is normal and correct. When people want something and don't have the cash, they look into how to finance it and then believe they're managing their money well. That's what we do, right? You haven't got money sitting around for a car so you get it on finance. You want a holiday so you put it on the CC. Personal loan to build the conservatory and then into the overdraft for fuel in the car. It's ok, you've got £50 in your wallet to feed the electric meter until payday. Life is good. Everything is under control.

I received a refund onto my credit card which put me into credit. Nationwide refunded the credit balance within a few days of my request. I paid people back from my current account.

Luckily I fall into the sensible/privileged group of people who clear their balance every month. If I didn't then I would have had to pay people by slowly accruing money in my current account and shifting spending to my credit card.

Alternatively (and with expense) you can use a credit card to fund PayPal payments to individuals. Last time I did this the fee was around 3%.
  • I paid for my holiday abroad using my 0% credit card and then placed that money in a fixed rate 1 year term saver. My credit card carried a balance where I paid the minimum.

My holiday was cancelled and my credit card refunded.

Now, in my case, this was not a problem. But imagine doing that to try and take advantage of a multi-party booking. Oops!

CC refunded, however, funds locked away until that 1 year fixed rate saver matures.

That could cause a headache for someone then!

Yup. A lot of people live payday to payday whether that’s on £20k or £200k.

Most people pay their CC in full. See http://www.theukcardsassociation.org.uk/wm_documents/UK Card Payments 2017 - Summary FINAL.pdf
"Around 80% of credit card spending is attributable to full payers"

Spending may be but that doesn't equate to cardholders.

Sorry meant to quote the rest of that sentence "...who in turn account for around 56% of the credit card holding population". So over half cardholders pay in full, similar to what I've seen elsewhere.
