MONEY MORAL DILEMMA. Is Del a plonker for flogging Wiis on eBay?

  • That all depends on whether he has checked the Final Value Fee from ebay, reaching 9% for video games! That is on top of the insertion fee.
So, to all the people who don't agree with what Del is doing, what about ebay?
Particularly the Final Value Fees which have been set for "Toys and Games" for the period October to 31st December! Is that obviously cashing in on Christmas demand or is it just my view?

    Merry Christmas
  • Del is out to make a profit, shame on him. Maybe he has mouths to feed, debts to pay. Maybe he's been to the dark side and vowed never to go back.

If we are talking ethics here, his ethics are no worse than the big supermarkets who screw farmers till they go bust so they can keep profits up and shareholders happy. And we love them regardless.

There is a niche in any market and someone will find it.

It's the people who climb through windows and steal Wii's this christmas we need to worry about.

    Strong point, I agree.

Maybe its easier for us to focus hate on individual than an organisation.

I believe that Del's actions - whilst they may be lawful (unless he's not declaring tax) - are not in keeping with the true spirit of the MSE forum.

Payless is right, "this story has been acted thro' in real life many times on these boards".

Many times in a supermarket I have been denied a special offer because the person with the trolley in front has stacked it up with that offer and the shelf is left empty. And the same goes here at MSE. People should take what they need for their own personal use and not be so selfish.
"He who asks questions cannot avoid the answers"
  • I don't see anything wrong with it at all!

If I could make a few extra quid now then I would, I'm in debt, have a son, another on the way, a mortgage, couldn't get any overtime last month so I'm in !!!! now all the way over the festive period.. lovely!

If people are willing to pay the price then what is he doing wrong?

For everyone who cries about they can't get one at the normal price then they need to get more organised.

It has been clear for about 6 months that the Wii was going to be the sell out item this Christmas

  • And to be honest, I am constantly seeing people on this forum exploiting loopholes or scamming tesco with the R&R's etc

This is just another loophole in the arsenal of money saving as far as I'm concerned

Maybe not in keeping with the spirit of the MSE forum but certainly in keeping with the laws of supply and demand in a capital culture. Dell is doing what all businesses do - buying cheap and selling high. Just because he isn't dong it from some glass fonted emporium doesn't make him any less a businessman. He is doing the research, laying out the capital, advertising his goods, packing and posting - and taking the risks. He is working for his profit. If buyers want their Wiis cheaper, they can do the same research that Del is doing. Let's face it, he is providing a service and charging what the current market is willing to pay. Nowt wrong with that :)

I don't hear anyone moaning about the shops that sell them at a profit - what's the difference?

It's not in the spirit of MSE to use this site to find where they are and the nbuy them up, but essentially buying and selling is what every shop does and I don't hear people moaning that Woolworths is making profit out of selling items like Wii's.

Woolworths bully the music industry into forcing them to sell them their product for next to nothing and yet people are moaning because one individual is being entrepreneurial and doing what shops do but on a smaller scale.
  • Hi

I'm one of the guilty involved, and yes its helping to reduce my debts.

Someone mentioned 9% on eBay, but what about the mighty Amazon.co.uk
they charge their 'marketplace' sellers 15%, thats 45.99 on a sale of £299.
(and enforce a postage fee of £1.99! - let me know where i ship via an insured service for that!)

you'll also find that many traders are having to buy software at an inflated price, which they then have to sell on at a substantial loss.

So no, its not all gravy! But its helping my debts !
(i await my stoning from my fellow forum members)

    I don't think he's doing anything wrong.

We have a Wii that we bought some time last year and because we don't play it very much, I suggested selling it now and then buying another one at a cheaper price for us when they become available again next year. Am I bad for wanting to do that?
