I've got the August 2023 version of this card as well.
From what I can see, there's no point in me calling them and asking for a product transfer over to this reward card... especially as I've got 3 years remaining until the offers expire.
Oddly my card shows as a Platinum online, and I have the standard blue/grey platinum card not the purple reward one, however my statement shows I get 0.25% cashback and no fees abroad...

Very weird that when I changed my old platinum one to the rewards one mine changed from the one you mention to this one.

Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

Apologies for the thread revival, but 31 Aug 2023 is only a couple of days away.

i have a barclaycard rewards card and, when i signed up, im sure the cashback and fee-free foreign use was limited until 31 Aug 23, but I can’t find any mention of it now. Have barclaycard quietly extended the cashback and zero foreign fees indefinitely?

It's certainly not ending for more recent applicants and it'd be weird to cut old customers off, whether that means it'll happen or not, I don't know. You could ask Barclaycard, or just try a transaction on the 1st to test it.

I had the previous Platinum Plus rewards card with that same offer on. I’d call them up and discuss it with them because as far as I’m aware the current Rewards card which replaced it doesn’t have an end date on.

    thanks both

Barclaycard customer service is so bad in my experience that I think I might just make a test purchase after the magic date and see what happens.

Here's a screenshot from the email I received from Barclaycard in March 2020. As a previous poster said, Barclaycard customer service is shockingly bad. Spent an hour on the phone trying to clarify the status of this and the person on the phone said they couldn't find emails that far back. They basically said it should be the case that the 0.25% cashback still applies and there are no fees for overseas spending, but they couldn't provide 100% reassurance. Best approach is to do a test purchase and see what the outcome is.

The Rewards card was indeed launched originally with a time limited offer around said rewards, but it was relaunched a year or two later, with no time restricted offer. As the relaunched product has the same name and look, it is fair to assume that the new T&C applied to holder of the previous version of the product.

If it was me, a way to test this theory would be to go in your app, scroll down to “Change to a different card” and see what options it show you. If the available card to swap to include another version of the Rewards card, than it may very well mean that the one you have has different T&C, however I expect that it will only show you the Platinum Card and the two Avios cards as options.

I'm not sure that approach really proves anything. There's a dozen different variants of Barclaycard Platinum in circulation, with a variety of rewards/FX related perks. If you have any of them, you won't see an option to change to a (new issue) Platinum card.

I got charged a fee on 31st august.

I got a text on the 1st sept saying future use abroad would attract a fee.

update, just been on a chat and they are going to refund fee.

time to find a new reward card or go back to my Amex.
  • Is your refund only because the fee was charged on 31st August - a day before it should have been ?
