Shop staff are in the shop for 8 hours a day. Customers are in there for a short time and can leave. Whereas I am prepared to wear a mask for the short time I am in a shop, I can imagine that it would become very uncomfortable to wear one all day.HollyTrees said:
But there are workers rights. But I will say its not going to be fair if shop staff doesn't have to wear face coverings when the customer has to.MarkN88 said:
Course they can. It’s their workplace. They choose.HollyTrees said:I heard today that staff at shops dont need to wear face coverings, so currently employers cant make staff wear them.
But then this wouldn't surprise me either.I’m not sure there’s a safety argument for a shop worker to wear one if they are behind a screen.1 -
Lots of healthcare staff who were very vulnerable were sent home to shield or redeployed to lower risk areas.Grumpy_chap said:I am struggling to understand the high number of people who apparently need to have an exemption from wearing a mask, yet there must be people working in healthcare with just as serious respiratory conditions and they manage to continue working and wear the mask.1 -
“Shop worker” can include many jobs within a store, only checkout staff will be behind a screen, what about staff that replenish, clean, are supervisors and have to walk around, the duty manager that will be everywhere, the store manager that will also have to be everywhere to be operationally up to date , security staff, etc.onwards&upwards said:

So therefore there is still a safety aspect for some shop workers like I originally pointed out.onwards&upwards said:

No, but it is more than possible to tolerate wearing a mask for 12hrs without collapsing.Even non-medical staff in hospitals such as those in shared offices or the canteen have to wear them.1

How about the right to not have another member of staff breath covid on them?HollyTrees said:

Unless it turns out that Boris Johnson or one of his elite backers has shares in a mask company, then I doubt it will happen.HollyTrees said:
My biggest fear is if the government makes it mandatory for us to not leave our own property without a mask. I feel thats the next step.

They might. Generally the UK seems to do what the rest of Europe does but a month later!0
