Doctor's Note Cost (Face Mask)

In the Care Home where my relative is the staff have to wear them for the whole of their 12 hour shift. The powers that be tell us the wearing of face coverings is to protect "the other person". If I am in a shop I am the other person so I think its either everyone or no one?silvercar said:
Shop staff are in the shop for 8 hours a day. Customers are in there for a short time and can leave. Whereas I am prepared to wear a mask for the short time I am in a shop, I can imagine that it would become very uncomfortable to wear one all day.HollyTrees said:
But there are workers rights. But I will say its not going to be fair if shop staff doesn't have to wear face coverings when the customer has to.MarkN88 said:
Course they can. It’s their workplace. They choose.HollyTrees said:I heard today that staff at shops dont need to wear face coverings, so currently employers cant make staff wear them.
But then this wouldn't surprise me either.2 -

You can't decide not to do something like this because it's 'uncomfortable'. Intubation is uncomfortable as well.2 -
What the government hasn't said as yet is what proof people will need and how that will be provided, in order for those to genuinely can't wear them to avoid being fined and/or targetted by general numpties while out and about.Mrsn said:Interestingly our health trust has issued a statement saying they will not issue letters for exemptions regarding the wearing of masks. I’d imagine others may do the same, they say the government guidance is clear who has to wear one and who cannot. If work have given the instruction under H&S or any other term as per the contract as Andy has said then I don’t see how it can be challenged any further. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Is this 'exemption' an own goal? Are those that would see themselves as exempt not also at higher risk of severe outcome if coronavirus is contracted?5

Not really an own goal as masks primarily protect those around the wearer not the wearer themselves.Grumpy_chap said:Is this 'exemption' an own goal? Are those that would see themselves as exempt not also at higher risk of severe outcome if coronavirus is contracted?YNWA

While I agree on the wearing of face masks in some settings - it is difficult for some to wear one due to health conditions.
I have asthma and mouth problem - it is a nightmare even just for 30 mins in the supermarket the discomfort and soreness is dreadful and to add to this the feeling of panic it brings is scary. But it is something I am trying to cope with but I honestly do not know how I would cope if still working. I certainly will not use a train/plane in the near future. As for a visor - well I have one of these and no matter what I do it steams up with in seconds.
As for the GP's stance on private notes etc.....well many charge for anything and everything(they run a business - unless an NHS centre which is 100% funded) also some supermarkets expect there employer to pay for the notes out of there own money. Yep worked in surgery many moons ago.
My suggestion would be to speak with Asthma UK the charity and see if they can advise - if you do go down the visor route make sure it is one that has a head band with an inch or so padding on fore head as this is a wee bit better at not steaming up.

I am struggling to understand the high number of people who apparently need to have an exemption from wearing a mask, yet there must be people working in healthcare with just as serious respiratory conditions and they manage to continue working and wear the mask.9
