Faulty Ryobi Brushless Drill

I have a drill that developed a fault just after two years.

I had the same thing happen before within warranty and it was replaced by this one.

The first time it happened, I contacted Ryobi and they told me that the warranty was covered by Amazon.

This time, I contacted Amazon and they told me the third year warranty was covered by Ryobi.

As I was originally advised by Ryobi that Amazon had taken responsibility for Ryobi warranties on products purchased through Amazon and this isn't the case, where do I stand legally with my rights?

I feel completely misled and made a complaint, but they have ignored it after telling me the terms of warranty are published in the manual and on the website and implying it's my fault for not registering within 30 days of purchase for the extended warranty. I told them I would have done that if I hadn't previously been told different and copied in the conversation showing the advice I was given.

  • Ryobi tools come with a two year warranty. Thus warranty is above your consumer rights, that is if you are a consumer user of the item.

    As your drill has already been replaced under the warranty, and it is now three years since purchase, you are out side of the warranty. You can still get an engineers report to say the drill is inherently faulty, and the seller, Amazon may reduce any refund due to the use you have had.

    As above any rights are now your Consumer Rights .
    Warranty is not your lawful consumer rights and subject to any T&C they want including register a product .

    Just to confirm, Ryobi tools come with three years warranty.

    In this instance Amazon deal with the first two years and Ryobi the third.

    My issue is that I was told by Ryobi that Amazon deal with the warranty on their products when purchased from Amazon.

    In reality, this isn't strictly true and therefore I have a problem because I was misadvised by Ryobi.

    If I hadn't been misadvised I would have registered with Ryobi straight away.

    The warranty conditions are listed on Amazon for Ryobi products, it clearly states that registration is need for the third year of the warranty.
     Registration is required for extension from 2 to 3 years for battery powered and electric tools. (taken from a Ryobi product on Amazon) Most warranties from most manufactures require registration for extended warranties.

    You said both of the above , was your initial fault within the first 30 days ? which is when Ryobi require you to register. If it was after 30 days you were already to late to register so it wouldnt matter what they told you

    Your warranty started when you bought the original drill, you don’t get a new warranty for the replacement drill just a continuation off the exciting warranty 
    You can still claim under CRA2015 as it’s under 6 years old from the retailer

    According to Ryobi's website I have not registered any products on their website. That's specifically because of what they said. 

    Seriously, I would have thought anyone who read this would come to my conclusion: Amazon cover the warranty for your item as they have a bought out warranty.

    I am therefore led to believe that Amazon deal with all warranty issues. They did not include any caveat.

    It's not possible to answer your question as it looks like Ryobi migrated from one website to another and I can see something mentioned about registering products, but no further information is available.

    Ok you bought a drill on Amazon and opened it, read instructions and you followed terms on the warranty ?
