Laptop was damaged either in transit or at Dell

You claim in your OP that the machine is in pristine condition, but it's filthy in the eBay listing. If that's the state you sent it to Dell I'm not surprised that they may think you got liquid in it.

Filthy? It was streaky as I just wiped it with an a dettol wipe. (And no, that wouldn't insert liquid inside it - I do know what I'm doing)Spank said:You claim in your OP that the machine is in pristine condition, but it's filthy in the eBay listing. If you mean the dust. Well, you can't really protect a laptop/keyboard from dust.
They must be doubting it, as I haven't heard from them since I sent them the pic (showing the service tag)0 -
Anyway. I'm done here.I'm talking to the Dell technical support team. When I get a final resolution with Dell, I'll report back with the results. No matter how long it takes. I'm more than willing to dig in.
I'll return with my findings, for the courtesy of anyone else who is experiencing the same issue, or may experience the issue in the future.0 -
Despite the listing saying it had been sent away for repair it also saysSpank said:You claim in your OP that the machine is in pristine condition, but it's filthy in the eBay listing. If that's the state you sent it to Dell I'm not surprised that they may think you got liquid in it.
‘What we have here is a Dell Inspiron 5480 laptop/notepad. This system is in BRAND NEW condition. It's never been taken out of my home, or moved from my work-desk. There's no scrapes, no marks and no damage. I've only used this Laptop for writing, so it's in new condition.,

You say dust but to me that looks like crumbs and not like dust, I know what dusty machines look like and I know what machines that have had food eaten around them look like and yours is definitely the latter. If you wanted to call it pristine and attempted to wipe it down in an attempt to clean it why didn't you give it a blast with some compressed air, run a vacuum over it, and actually clean it properly stead of leaving smears all over it?ChDarcy said:

Is any of this relevant since the laptop does not work at all now ?Fosterdog said:

Stating its in brand new condition when its been used (the photo of the keyboard doesnt say its brand new), a massive contradiction there.0
-
eBay listing linked above says the condition is "Used: ..." in the pre-selected condition box. But the listing does mention many times that the unit will be "brand new" after the keyboard etc. is replaced.
I don't think that's how eBay see "Brand New" as working, however good the condition ends up.

(Yeah. If I wanted critique about my eBay listing I would post on the eBay forums. And if I wanted to be called a liar, I'd claim that I'm the one that shot JR)
Update:
Dell sent me a video of the laptop being unboxed at the depot. The video is 14 kb in size. Suffice to say, the video did not open.
Yesterday they sent me an invoice for £264. My reply is probably not publishable in this forum.
I've emailed them to fix the laptop, free of charge, as I don't think they've dealt with my issue with due care or skill. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 states that, as a trader, they should use reasonable care and skill whilst carrying out work for a consumer. They did not.
If they refuse I'm going to escalate this matter to the small claims court: https://www.scotcourts.gov.uk/taking-action/civil-online-gateway/BeforeYouBegin/StartClaim?type=claimant
It would've saved me a lot of time if someone here gave me that advice, in the first place, instead of accusing me of lying (not sure what I'm being accused of lying about) or dissing my eBay listing. Isn't this suppose to be a forum for advice? Seems like there's more judgment than advice going on.1 -
It's completely relevant when OP is trying to claim that the laptop was in good condition when being sent for repair and has stated that no food or drink has ever been consumed near the laptop when the photographs taken by OP show differently. If they are openly and obviously lying when also posting their own "evidence" that goes against them then they are not trustworthy enough to believe their version of events on what caused the failure.Jumblebumble said:
