155 width on a 17 inch rim? Is that a thing?0

155?
They're very, VERY narrow. WAY too narrow for a car that size. I doubt they're load rated sufficiently. Your insurer would wash their hands of you in the event of a claim.0 -
The 155/70 is but you will need to change the wheels if the normal fitment is a 225 wide tyre as the rims will be too wide to fit a 155 width tyre.

225/50R17 or 155/70R17?
If only it was that simple. Find 10 brands of tyres and your likely to find 10 variations where the
same 225/50 tyre varies in ride comfort.

All other things equal..
The difference in sidewall is 3mm (or 2%) in favour of the 17s, which is tiny.
Ontop of this, the 17s would have a much greater volume of air inside them that could be compressed over every bump.
In favour of the 15s.. they would be lighter, reducing your unsprung mass making the ride better.
On balance im going with the 17s.
Just IMHO

the percentage difference is the same, as second number on a tyre is a ratio of width to sidewall.Im A Budding Neil Woodford.0 -
Does the tyre pressure sticker give you options for comfort and heavy load? Using the lower pressure setting will give you a softer ride (whilst using more fuel).0
