What "premium"? Most, if not all, providers charge the same for FTTP as they do for the same FTTC tier. BT certainly don't charge extra for FTTP versus FTTC.brewerdave said:

I'd assumed that BT would charge more for FTTP vs the prices that are currently offered for FTTC by the likes of Sky,Plusnet and TT. Hopefully there will be more choice of ISP by the time Openreach actually cable up our close.Highland76 said:

It'll be interesting to see whether they offer FTTP and the standard copper phoneline in a year's time; Openreach are obviously trying to wean everyone off copper; I believe that they will not make any new connections to the "old" network in our area after June 2021 with a target of 2025 for total shut down.matelodave said:I pay for 76 Mbit/s and get 76 Mbit/s (upload 20Mbit/s), I could have had 150 or 330 if I'd wanted and apparently there's an opportunity to get 900. if I want it. As 76 is significantly better than the 1.8Mbit/s I was getting previously I'm more than happy with it.
It's not as cheap as ADSL though, My initial contract cost me £46/mo with unlimited phone calls which got ramped up to £65 after 12 months but I got it down to £52 (that's with BT). The BB is over fibre but we've still got a copper phone line (the overhead line between the pole and the house is a hybrid optical/copper combination).0 -
Whilst Openreach may be in a position to wean people off ADSL, it won't be in a position to wean the majority of households off copper for decades.brewerdave said:Openreach are obviously trying to wean everyone off copper; I believe that they will not make any new connections to the "old" network in our area after June 2021 with a target of 2025 for total shut down.0 -
My 60 house cul de sac has four on BT FTTP rest on ADSL apart from those that Virgin picked up ( probably 30% )

Why not ?? If they can get the vast majority of the population into a position where their property is "passed" by Openreach fibre, they can make it a fait accompli - as I understand the fibre rollout , it is possible to offer a line only deal to support voice calls via VOIP using 0.5 Mbps up and down via the fibre. Certainly they are bullish about switching off PSTN/WLR services sooner rather than later. The maintenance costs of the old exchange equipment for a handful of customers will be horrendous.Chino said:

Nope. On their own roadmaps the majority of households will be off copper in the 2030s. Depending on VM and alt net progress that could come even in the late 2020s

I live on a new estate with BT FTTP 76mb download/upload about 20mb - fibre to the property. Being charged £45.90, with landline. Other than Zen, who are slightly dearer, I'm struggling to find a cheaper alternative. I'm with Sky and they are in the middle of rolling out their FTTP offering. Due to Corona Virus their phone lines are off. Anyone got any ideas?0

Apologies! Im with Sky for tv and mobile..0

We had the FTTP engineers out on our street all last week, took them a mug of tea, 'is this FTTP?', 'Yes', 'Is it live now?', 'Yes'. But the BT website shows nothing and nothing planned. Just the way it is.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.
