Offers on two houses

Even if an offer is accepted, you can pull out at any time before contracts are exchanged. So practically there is no issue. Having an offer accepted and then pulling out to go for a property you prefer better is perfectly allowed - as long as you don't waste weeks or months of the seller's time.0

What ever you do, don't apply for 2 mortgages at the same time as this chump did:
But I wouldn't offer on two houses to be honest

Just a quick update on what happened. House 1 (the dream home) had a cash buyer offering and they went with the cash buyer despite me offering more... i THEN made an offer on house 2 but for less than they were asking because I think it was listed for more than it was worth. It was a lovely home. They couldn't accept my offer but wanted to instead go through with their viewings in the weekend and asked if I was okay to wait until Monday for them to decide. I said sure.
Meanwhile, I viewed a house that Saturday around the corner from them, offered asking price and am now sorting out the legalities for it (so stressed re mortgage!!!). So I ended pulling my offer from house 2 - and I did therefore actually have two offers on the go at once but only because they asked me to wait so long. I just looked and house 2 is still on the market for the same price. Here properties sell super quickly and it's been listed since May.2
