Ditzy_Mitzy said:Murphybear said:When we moved 2 and a bit years ago we found a hair salon that offered free cuts with the trainee. These were only for about 3 hours a week so you can imagine how long the waiting lists were! They have put them on hold for a while so I thought I would book an ordinary appointment. Unfortunately they aren’t taking any more for a while and are giving priority to regular customers (good for them). I looked at the “posh” salon as well, they are fully booked. I had a look at the prices, a cut and blow dry would have been £43 - £80. I suppose I’m a bit out of touch. I have no idea what the prices were like before. Both of these salons are making masks and gloves compulsory.
there is a small salon near us on the outskirts of town. She could fit me in in 2 weeks. £40 and no masks unless you want to. Reviews are good.
What do you think, are these prices normal. This is a small market town in a very affluent area.I’m looking forward to getting my hair cut. With the exciting news that swimming pools can open I’m going to get it cut short.I’m pleased for the salons, like most small businesses they have had a rough time and hopefully they can make up the lost income
I have been an every 5 week visitor to my salon for about 4 years. They rang me before they reopened to see if I wanted an appointment. Did I? I’m desperate. My appointment is next Wednesday and I’m practically counting the hours. I ditched the colours a while ago and embraced the white/silver and I’m lucky that it’s a nice shade. But it’s thick and unruly and needs professional attention. Not sure if there’s been a price hike. I’ll have to see when I get there but I don’t care. I need a haircut.0 -
My £41 (nice commuter belt town in the SE) was for a wet cut, so no colour or blowdry - a colour for £40 sounds incredibly cheap!0

Before that Im getting the eyebrows done and any other stray hairs she finds
I do Mr S's hair with clippers and I trimmed mums and trimmed my fringe but that's the height of my hairdressing skills
Since I stopped colouring my hair, getting it well styled is a must to stop me looking fumpy. My hairdresser isn't hard to pay either so its my treat to myself every 20 -
My friend called in today after visiting the hairdresser. She has fairly long hair and had about 2” cut off and then a full head of foils. I nearly died when she said it cost her nearly £100!! She said it was about £20 more than it usually is. Last time I went to the hairdresser for foils it cost me about £40 but that must be about 5 years ago. I have now gone grey gracefully and don’t regret it a bit.0

My hair was last done in February and now looks a mess, normally I have a cut and foil highlights every 8 weeks but £85 each time was bothering me. My hairdresser has increased prices due to covid so I’d be looking at £100 now. I’m going to book in for a cut but am tempted to start doing my own colour but know blonde is hard to do yourself. My hair is mid brown but has quite a lot of grey. I’ve seen a few people on Facebook have used blonde box dyes but they have tended to end up ginger or strawberry blonde, which I want to avoid as my grey regrowth will be too noticeable.

A visit to a hairdresser now would be the first in more than 30 years.
My husband used to trim my below shoulder length hair occasionally. Since he died I have kept it at that length without external help. "Up" styles help,

I'm giving up going for the time being. I have cut OHs hair and the kids for years using clippers. I usually pay £70 every 8 weeks for a trim and colour and just can't justify the spends at the mo so I've started with the home colour. I think it looks okay - I probably will stay clear of trying to have highlights whilst I'm doing it myself but an all over colour or root touch up so far has been pretty successful. I haven't braved cutting my own hair yet - might try and get DD to have a go!MFW #69 Mortgage remaining Jan 2021 £221,644; Jan OP £1000;0

I’ve been cutting my own hair for about 18 months now and colouring it for many years. I decided to give rose gold a try instead of my normal blonde and I really like it 👍🏻I have to wear a mask for 10 hours a day at work (NHS) so if I had to wear one at a hairdressers it really wouldn’t bother me.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Health & Beauty, Greenfingered Moneysaving and How Much Have You Saved boards. M DH trims and colours my hair for me; he has done for the 18 years we've been together. My hair is waist-length and straight, so it's easy to just keep the ends trimmed. However I shall be pleased when he finally gets around to visiting the barber. I've done my level best to keep his hair trimmed and tidy, but I don't have the proper tools, or the skill really.Regarding masks - I spent ages making them, so I'm jolly well going to get some wear from them!If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0

But in saying that there was a long queue for the threading lady in the shopping centre and Superdrug hadn't opened theirs, so Im struggling on as I don't know of a good salon0
