With lockdown and lots of people looking at how to cut their own hair and doing it, how many of you now realise they now don't need to be paying a hairdresser to to do it and are stopping going to the hairdressers and doing it themselves?
Its made me realise I could easily cut my own hair as I normally only have a trim which costs me £26 for the privilege and I colour my own hair anyhow but I have a lovely lady that comes to my house to cut my hair and (I know its stupid) I just can't bring myself to say I don't want you anymore (I just feel so bad) so as a compromise for now I'm changing my trims from every 6 weeks to every 12 weeks and if need be giving it a trim in the middle myself. As soon as the siutation changes and where I have the guts to dump my hairdresser or the situation changes so it ends anyhow then I will be doing it on my own. I figure I can always pop into a salon if I did decide on the odd occasion I wanted it done professionally or wanted a complete change and in the long run it could save a lot of money.

My husband asked me to cut his hair.  I very reluctantly did.  You’ve never seen such a mess in your life.

my hair is down to my chin, that’s just the fringe.  I’ll splash out at a hairdresser to get a decent cut.  Ive saved enough money during the lockdown by not eating out or having  the usual drinks while shopping.  Biggest saving was on petrol.

Hairdresser is top priority for both my husband and me but no longer need my nails done at salon.  They are fine with a brush and shine.

If I cut my own, I just know I'd look like  badly coiffured cartoon character!

Dad and I haven't needed a hairdresser for a few years now (his can be done with clippers, my sister gives me an annual straight-across trim if need be - I cut it myself before, until I could no longer reach the ends) but Mum and my brother both have shaped hairstyles that none of us have the courage to attempt! My brother has an awkward-shaped head and a triple crown, and Mum prefers hers longer than clippers will do. They used to go 8-12 weeks between cuts anyway, no colouring, and with the most reasonably-priced person they could find. They haven't arranged anything yet though as they don't feel the risk is low enough to be worth it.

Myself and OH were chatting about this the other day
Me: I can't remember the last time I went to the hairdresser, have I ever been whilst we have been together?
    Him: Not that I recall
Me: We've been together for 8 years!! :o
I've cut my own hair for years now (it is quite long, just past the shoulder) because I had a bad experience years ago and the salon is not an enjoyable experience for me, it is more like a task so I learned to cut and colour it myself at home.  OH just gets me to take the clippers to his.....all off lol !!
My get out is that I have quite curly hair, so any 'discrepancies' after cutting are not so obvious as they would be in straight hair I guess, I suppose it comes down to personal preference more than anything :)

Not fully ditching the hairdresser - a good cut makes the world of difference to my hair - but I am ditching the colour and embracing the grey. When else will I have a genuine excuse for having bad roots?

For years and years I’ve treated myself to a weekly blow dry, until around a year ago when I decided to cut that down to once every month. I’ve got a very uncomplicated hair style and it just seemed a bit of a waste of money. Since lockdown I’ve managed fine, trimming my fringe myself after watching YouTube videos, but the highlights definitely require some attention, and I wouldn’t try doing anything like that myself. However, I think I can now go to every six weeks, and my OH is a dab hand with the straighteners!

I've been cutting my daughters' hair for years.  I occasionally take them to the hair dresser but one of them doesn't like going and they just have long straight hair so it's easy to cut myself.

During lock down, I've cut my husband's hair three times.  It was terrifying the first time - he is stuck in the 90s with what I'd call 'short curtains' so I can't just use clippers.  The second and third times were much easier and it looks fine.  He has suggested that he's not going to pay for it to be done professionally again, but I'm not too keen - he only pays a tenner or something normally and I'd rather not have the fear of ruining his hair!  He likes his barber too.

I haven't had mine cut but I used to get my sisters to do it, in my late teens and early twenties.  Not sure I really trust my husband to do mine though, as it's just a straight cut but quite short.  I wouldn't do it myself - I tried that when I was due to start chemo and realised that it's a lot harder than it looks!

My appointment is for 3pm tomorrow and I cant wait

Before that Im getting the eyebrows done and any other stray hairs she finds :)

I do Mr S's hair with clippers and I trimmed mums and trimmed my fringe but that's the height of my hairdressing skills

Since I stopped colouring my hair, getting it well styled is a must to stop me looking fumpy. My hairdresser isn't hard to pay either so its my treat to myself every 2 months
