My one concern is if we manage to get the bed in via a window etc, when we move in a few years time, we’ll be going through this with the removals people all over again!!!

Maybe a slatted bed would be an option then, cheaper than removing a window twice surely.
When you do move in the future use this as a learning experience.
MASSIVE learning experience! Depending on what FV say, we will likely look at a slatted bed.

Or you could look at ziplink.  We have them in our holiday cottages, it is a superking when zipped or two singles when not, you cannot feel the zip on a good quality bed.

The zip-link comment causes me to ask... was the mattress in one piece (apologies if you've already answered that question).  If so, how was that ever going to get up the stairs?  If they are zip-link, keep the mattresses and buy a new base.... one that can be assembled on site.

Kan2020 - despite what their T&Cs say, I'd be arguing with them that you'd put them on notice that their might be potential problem by asking the sales assistant.  If you indicated that you were concerned about door size, turn in the stairs etc, then he should have explicitly told you "I'm afraid it's your responsibility to check that yourself, sir" rather than saying "No problem" or whatever he did say.

You need to tell FV that it's simply not good enough for you to ask the question and be told not to worry about it when you should have been worried about it!  They are the experts - not you.  You don't want shabby second rate customer service if FV hold themselves out as a reliable and professional furniture retailer.  (Whether they are or not I wouldn't like to say).  Last resort tell the story on social media.

It might not get you a full refund (I think it should) but see what you can haggle.

The sales assistant deserves a proper bo77ocking...

I have a superking bed, and getting it through a large 4 bedroom detached house was a nightmare.
I think you need to shoulder some responsibility for expecting the largest size of 'off the shelf' bed to get through a very small type of house without issue.

It's going to be a case of windows out, or relying on their goodwill (or likely paying the 25%).

Definitely, we do take some responsibility for this. Just fingers crossed and everything crossed that there will be some goodwill!

My grans bedroom window was taken out to get the coffin out.
Some smaller houses had a coffin drop in the ceiling to get the coffin in and out.

Probably upright, not recommended when a body's in it (assuming people died at home back then)
