Interesting point about never phoning the debt recovery company. Is there a specific reason for that (e.g. they then have your number)?

Nothing to do with them getting your phone number (1471 hides that), but you'll simply expose yourself to a barrage of sh|t and abuse, trying to break you into paying. They will have absolutely no interest whatsoever in anything you have to say. Thinking you can 'roll them over' in a phone call, remember they dish this stuff 24/7 - it's their day job and how they earn their wages!

Just for info: you can dial 141 before a number to withhold it (1471 is last number redial, I think)
That's the one, I'll amend my post! 👍

Has anyone tried the "divide and conquer" approach of simply paying part of it outright, thereby reducing the amount to a sum not worth fighting over? So, for instance, my £160 "debt" drops from treble to double figures if I pay £65 (way less than £160, and £95 looks much less like a fight worth fighting, on their side).
There's nothing that can be tried that hasn't been tried.  If you think you can pull it off, then tell us how you did it.

Nine times out of ten these tickets are scams, so consider complaining to your MP., it can cause the scammer extra costs and work, and in some cases, cancellation.

Parliament is well aware of the MO of these private parking companies, many of whom are former clampers, and on 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these shysters. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up,

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many DVLA's date base more rigorously policed, persistent offenders denied access to the DVLA database and unable to operate.

Hopefully life will become impossible for the worst of these scammers, but until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

    http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2019/8/contents/of these Private Parking Companies.

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these Private Parking Companies.

You never know how far you can go until you go too far.

Totally agree.  Why on earth would anyone pay a scam PPC?

if I subsequently receive a Letter Before Claim as it is now, i.e. can one expect at that point just to pay up without it having increased?
Why would you?  We win in court. You would win in court.

The change of terms not being clear on extra signs breaches the BPA Code of Practice regarding 'changed terms' or whatever the heading is in the Code of Practice.  And it's an unfair business practice and breach of the doctrine of good faith, to allow people to be able to type in a tariff where they've moved the goalposts without clearly advertising that.

This breaches the CPUTRs by causing an average consumer (you) to make a detrimental transactional decision that you would never have made if you had been told about the change on signs/at the machine/on the screen/on the app, or whatever.  It is an unfair burden (read the CPUTRs - the law is on your side).
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

if you pay some off they chase for the rest, seen it several times before (or they return the part payment wanting payment in full, or they fail to cash the cheque and chase the outstanding "balance"

as Umkomaas says, if you find anything new that works, let us all know so we can stop coming here like groundhig day :)

until then its figures on paper that change weekly, the only amount actuall owed is when a judge says "You owe the claimant £xxx.xxp , payment in one month or a CCJ will be on your credit file for 6 years"

the claimant has 6 years to try a court claim (ECP or their solicitors, not any debt collector)

Slight deviation from the advice in the newbies thread. I have sent a SAR request to Euro Car Parks already. I no longer have the original PCN from 3 years ago, or the letters from Zenith etc, so it makes sense to get relevant info together, even though I don't as yet have an LBA/LBC letter. I gather any legal proceeding would be Euro Car Parks to pursue, rather than Debt Recovery Plus, so a tightly-phrased, template-based SAR request to Euro Car Parks should help to establish my credentials as both articulate and determined. Thoughts anyone?

Absolutely nothing wrong with being prepared in case a real court claim dies come along.

Get pics of the site and signage.
Use Google Street View to see if the entrance and signs can be viewed either side of the date of the alleged event. Use the clock with curved arrows to reveal the time slider, then move to the year required, then click on the small image to get the larger image to change to the correct date.
Find out who is/was the landowner and complain to them.

Complain to your MP about this unregulated scam.
