Oooh just found this thread, both DP and I are wombles much to my DS's horror. I love a good skip find. DP is always bringing stuff home from his seasonal job with the council driving and tidying up the beaches. People are so wasteful. He uses it mainly in his workshop or the garden. We've had brand new bbq's he cleans up and I sell, a huge gazebo he fixed, beach umbrellas, windbreaks. Plus loads of other stuff8

I'm always astonished by what people leave on our beaches - and quite frequently furious too, but that's another story - we've benefitted from a number of towels (which probably came from one or other of the hotels, but they don't seem to want them back!) which have been boil-washed & are still in service several years later.Angie - GC Aug25: £292.26/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)6

@Madbat60 that reminds me of the skip diving I did for some bricks. My house was built from locally produced bricks about 90 years ago. Sadly the brick works closed down years ago and getting bricks to match is a challenge. One of my neighbours was knocking out a wall as part of an extension. We now have a number of spare bricks in case of a brick emergency. We did get a few odd looks whilst skip diving (with permission).✒️ Declutter 2025👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

At the moment I'm wombling roadside dandelions for all I'm worth! Now my chickens are locked down & can't "graze" the lawn, they're short of greenery. The local greengrocer & market stallholders help out with outer leaves & rejected produce when they can, but I'm not the only one asking. However the Council have cut back drastically on gardeners & the flower beds are fast becoming weed-beds, which they'll just spray with Round-up in early spring & bung some poor sad petunias & salvias into. So I'm harvesting the "crops" of dandelion, charlock, black mustard, & even self-sown chard on an almost daily basis, leaving the roots in to re-grow if the weather permits. There are places I wouldn't touch - dog-walking routes, mostly - and I do get some very disapproving looks, although I see it as a win-win situation in that the weeds don't get to spread further. And I've found several coins - mostly coppers, but it all counts - whilst hunter-gathering - an unexpected bonus of poultry-keeping!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL. i declare a coin stash of £23.66 for last year, found whilst out dog walking. have had a bit of a relapse with the labrinthsytus as collapsed whilst out with one of the dogs 5am in -2 conditions, confidence has been knocked, but will hopefully get back to normal soon. tallied up that the chooks have given us 2458 eggs last year!! still laying everyday!! our last duck aged 19 is still plodding on...very thin but still eating well. bailey our eldest dog has terminal cancer but seems well in herself and zeus has arthritus in his legs. a challenging year ahead i think!! onwards and upwards!!

I spotted a pound coin on the pavement near where I used to live and swooped down to pick it up. Someone had superglued it down. I suspect they lived in one of the nearby flats and spent entertaining hours watching people.
Where I grew up (far far away) there were always advertised days twice a year where people could put out "stuff". So that old sofa, half used paint, whatever you'd put it out by the roadside and people would drive by looking for stuff they might need. I'm sure there must have been a few "second hand shop" types cruising for things to sell but mostly it was considered a great way to furnish a flat on the cheap.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
