Hi all,
Busy day at work and did my PT role this evening. Got my dripping kitchen tap fixed and bought a little bit of food in Mr C; so definitely a spend day. DD2 was a bit down so we went for a short drive around the countryside - stopped at a layby and looked out over a pond for a while - very soothing.
Gratitudes - FT and PT job roles are busy & both are secure for now; nice tea from supplies and leftovers; managed to get the washing dry and have a walk in between showers

Mark Sissons said, “Living a healthy lifestyle is simple, but not easy.” So true. The basics of health are few. We can debate and elaborate on the specifics until we are blue in the face, but most aspects of living a healthy lifestyle are pretty straightforward. Yet for many people physical well-being is elusive.
Many things in life are the same way – simple to understand, yet not so easy to practice. As radio personality and personal finance champion Dave Ramsey explains:
"The key to getting your money to behave is to bother. Caller after caller to my radio show have gotten themselves into financial messes because they were going through life like Gomer Pyle on Valium and not paying attention to what their money was doing. But people do smart things if they just bother! Get on a plan and stick to it. I learned through my own financial mistakes that the key to financial success was making the guy I shave with behave. Winning at money is 80 percent behavior and 20 percent head knowledge. It’s not about sophisticated financial theories; it’s about taking control. I won with money and you can too. Like Nike says: “Just do it!”"
Now just replace any mention of money with ‘health’ or ‘body’ and you’ve gotten to the core of Mark’s point.
There you go, turtles. Today's missive from apple!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!7 -
Morning everyone
Checking in early with my 3 gratitudes:
- Leftover turkey mince chilli for lunch
- Good traffic on the way to work this morning
- The fact we have the basics - running water, food, warmth and shelter4 -
Checked both mum and my bank accounts yesterday - mum's is where she wants it to be despite her fears that I am 'spending all her money'. Mine was better than expected (mostly because mum is paying for the food I eat) but still nowhere near enough to pay back the WTC people. Not received the Debt and Mental Health form back from the doctor's (fear it has gone to the unsympathetic doctor) but not yet heard from tax people either - they must still be dealing with the massive increase in claims due to COVID-19. Wrote down the income and expenditure amounts to work out surplus (mum)/ deficit (me) going forward and trying to work out what I could afford to repay.
Made up lots of little envelopes with milk and egg money (about ten weeks) and window cleaner money - nearly to the end of the year as I used all the too small for anything else plastic bags up. £2 toucan is severely depleted but has been exchanged for £20 notes and I have completed the 365 penny challenge. Not saved much during lockdown but have exchanged the savings tin money and £2 toucan money for notes to make up these envelopes. The reason I did so many yesterday was that I realised it was a waste of time rooting through the tin every month and I might as well exchange any useful coins in one fell swoop - savings tin now only has notes and 5 p, 2 p and 1 p coins. Mum has a jar of coins to pay for veg boxes or any other cash requirements (I think the large £20 veg box was better suited to our needs and will probably have one every 2 - 3 weeks rather than the medium £15 weekly one).
Washing went out, bins came in and bits of weeding, watering and tidying happened. Still lots to do but trying to think about the best way forward (whilst mum has me tilting at windmills and then spends the evening reminding me about things I did six hours earlier).
I boiled some eggs and made egg and peanut roll (eaten with scraps of salad) and was going to do a quiche, using up the last of the mushrooms but then tipped it into a pan and had omelette instead.
In the evening I did a seed audit (have received an autumn seed order and all the quick grow stuff - salad leaves, pea shoots - needs the next batch doing as well as any seed that can still be started in July). Starred those still okay and those coming up - listed those that won't be needed again until January into spring. I am adding in little jobs that can be done whilst watching tv - eg kondoing plastic bags for the cs and need to restart my remaining embroidery projects.
I am grateful for a dry day for drying washing (bedding from two beds) but also the rain (harvesting and storing as much as possible), for my bed and the lovely merino wool quilt (the cold spell justified snuggling down), for beginning to make sense of the mess even if it's not sorted (had a few not much progress days but forward is forward).
My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage6 -
Just a thought Mothernerd, but could you continue to sell your crafted items, even though you won't be able to claim tax credits? It would be better than nothing, and would top up your carer's allowance and be a bit extra. You can still be self employed / do self assessment without all the tax credit fiasco, which almost seems to cause as many problems as it solves. I have been p/t self employed for years, even while I was still working FT. Now I just do a few hours self employed. I only earn a little, but it adds a bit extra to my pension, all above board with HMRC etc. I guess it would have an impact with regard to your state pension entitlement if you don't pay NICS, which you don't have to if you earn less than a given amount, but I don't suppose you are paying it at the moment anyway? Hope you don't think I am speaking out of turn, but that is what I would do / have done.
