Isn't there a limit on the upper value of the cheque?

For £15,000? I know the limit on Barclays app was £500, now £1000 because of covid.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

Can't pay in cheques for more than £1,000 with the app.

Without making any judgments about the couple - just stating possibilities:
One reason I can see is that she might not want her cheque to be paid into the joint account. Not least because husband could make off with her money the minute her cheque has cleared into the joint account.
I have to admit, this was my initial thought! (not to make off with her money, lol, but I wondered if the bank might think this! which is why I thought I might have problems depositing such a large cheque in her name).
No - it's just that she works during the week, and because of the covid situation, our Halifax is closed at weekends. So it's not easy for her to make the deposit herself   As I'm currently working from home, it's easy for me to pop there at anytime.
Why not just post the cheques? Take photos of front and back of both so you have a record. Then stick them in the post.

The app only allows you to deposit cheques up to £500 unfortunately!

I'll pop in there tomorrow. Thanks everyone for your great feedback. I thought there'd be a quick/obvious answer to this and didn't mean to make a long thread!
I'll update this thread tomorrow with how I got on  :)

£1K per cheque / £2K per day now, but still not enough for your cheques. Was fine for me though as I received a cheque for £690 today.

This might be pointing out the obvious so apologies but you can pay a cheque made out to a sole name into a joint account but you can't pay a joint cheque into a sole account. It doesn't matter who takes the cheque into the bank as long as the cheque is made out to someone on the account. The cashier will just be checking the name on the cheque matches the name on the account. You will be fine paying in to an automated machine as you usually get a receipt with a picture of the cheque on, and all that happens is the machine is emptied throughout the day and the cheques processed by a cashier anyway. The cheques go through exactly the same process whether paid in with a person or machine so although it feels safer seeing a person it is just as safe if not safer to use a machine.
