Can I pay a cheque in my wife's name into our joint Halifax account?

Hi there - hope this isn't a dumb question!
My wife and I have a joint Halifax savings account. We have both received a cheque for an investment that we've cashed in for an equal amount of £15,000. One cheque is in my name, and the other is in my wife's name.
I want to pop down to the Halifax tomorrow morning to pay both cheques into our joint account. Can I do this? Or does my wife need to be present to pay her cheque in as it's a fairly large amount? Anyone know? Just don't want to make a wasted trip if I can only pay my cheque in.

If you pay it in using the automated machine, how will it know?

Thanks for the feedback, prowla and baza! I know I shouldn't be, but am just nervous about paying such large amounts in using 'automated' systems. If the cheques were £30 or £40 then I wouldn't be too bothered. But I'd much prefer to get it done via a live person over the counter due to the amounts involved. And, anyway, I do wonder whether there are limits for paying in through the cashpoint, etc? I do appreciate your feedback though.
I'll take the cheques to Halifax tomorrow and just see what happens. If the wife has to make a separate trip to pay hers in, then she'll just have to do that. I'll post back here to let anyone else who might come across this situation know the outcome.
Thanks again!1 -
This is a joint account.
I can't see any reason why you shouldn't pay your wife's cheque into what is as much her account as yours.
Do you need to take in a paying in slip as well? Or her ATM card?1 -

Without making any judgments about the couple - just stating possibilities:
One reason I can see is that she might not want her cheque to be paid into the joint account. Not least because husband could make off with her money the minute her cheque has cleared into the joint account.0 -
So could she.colsten said:xylophone said:This is a joint account.

I have to admit, this was my initial thought! (not to make off with her money, lol, but I wondered if the bank might think this! which is why I thought I might have problems depositing such a large cheque in her name).colsten said:Without making any judgments about the couple - just stating possibilities:

No - it's just that she works during the week, and because of the covid situation, our Halifax is closed at weekends. So it's not easy for her to make the deposit herself
As I'm currently working from home, it's easy for me to pop there at anytime.

Just ensure that you take copies of both cheques

My brother lives abroad but has a joint account for himself and his wife with Barclays Bank. I have paid in numerous cheques for him, both at automated in branch machines and via a cashier without any problems. I use a pre printed paying in slip which is probably what you would use.1

Pay it vua your respective phones if you have the Halifax app.
I have done it a few times xmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.2
