They are horrid creatures, what purpous do they have?As far as I can see they don't serve a purpose in the chain of life. They eat thousands of insects. In the tropics, they pollinate plants that we enjoy consuming, including cocoa. Imagine a life without chocolate.0

It's not about what use they are to us. Although should species that pollinate plants, of which bats are one, continue to decline we would be completely stuffed. And very hungry.
However since you ask, the main point is clearly that bats have been of huge benefit in giving us the Dracula books and assorted hammer house of horror films.
And Batman.
Unless of course you are a cultural desert. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.5 -
sarahandme said:But why should I let a few bats push me out of my home country?Well you have several choices (or at least your Mum has. I assume we are still talking about your Mum who has a phobia of bats...?)You either put up with it.You move to a country that has different laws regarding bats. You may wish to consider China. You start a petition to have the bat protection law repealed. Here is the link:https://www.change.org/start-a-petition?utm_source=sem&utm_medium=google_ad&utm_campaign=G>Search>SAP>UK>NonBrand>BMM&utm_term=+petition|b|AG:75878047832|AD:360800964120&utm_content=2020_06_29&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3ouS3f6o6gIVWOvtCh0-swsDEAAYASAAEgJ_HvD_BwE
- Keep it short and to the point
Example: "Buy organic, free-range eggs for your restaurants"
Not: "Stop the inhumane treatment of chickens in battery farms that are force-fed..."
- Focus on the solution
Example: "Raise the minimum wage in Manchester to £15 an hour"
Not: "Stop rising income inequality in Manchester"
- Communicate urgency
Example: "Approve life-saving medication for my daughter's insurance before it’s too late"
Here's ^^^^ some tips for the title of your petition:
So I would respectfully suggest that you don't title it
"Kill all the bats 'cos they're scaring my Mum'.
Good luck with whichever option you and your Mum choose.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if one day some idiot decides wood worm are protected, so we won't be allowed to touch them and our houses will rot to pieces and fall down around our heads. Who cares at the end of the day? 😳1
