That requires you to commit a data protection breach AND obtain information through false pretences, and many people would find those far more serious offences than parking an untaxed car on the road.
The site is set up for people to get insurance information, I don't think there is much need to check your own insurance online.
You can ask DVLA for information about your vehicle or another vehicle and its registered keeper if you have a ‘reasonable cause’. So in some instances, the data is private, but if you have a ‘reasonable cause’ it is not.

"But I want to curtain-twitch my naughty neighbour!" is not one of the permitted reasons.

    So it's MOT'd, you don't know if it's insured but you say it's Sorn'd
If it is insured then SORN status is immaterial. Do you check that it was SORN'd?
At the moment there is a big gap in your information and the only offence that is obvious is under Construction & Use for the lack of a number plate

The OP wanted to report an untaxed vehicle in an unroadworthy condition.

Not really. It's an offence to keep or use a SORNed vehicle on a public road. Insurance is a separate issue.

Which doesn't require them to lie to MID about checking insurance, or contact DVLA at all.

Surely if it has valid tax then it not Sorn'd?
Buying tax cancels a SORN. SORNing a vehicle cancels tax

I thought it was an excise offence not con and use.

The missing numberplate not the tax/sorn/insurance question
