Barclaycard Rewards Visa card not fully supported in Google Pay?

Barclaycard don’t support NFC on android phones as it’s not as secure as Apple's NFC chip as only Apple Pay is allowed to use it hence why they allow Apple Pay.Any app on Android phones has access to the NFC chip, so Barclaycard have decided not to allow there cards to be used on Google pay as it’s not as secure.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0

The solution is to get a curve card which can then be added to Google Pay and linked to the Barclaycard, bit of a long winded workaround but it does work fine. Just bear in mind that using curve means no section 75 protection but it's fine for everyday stuff. PM me and I can send you a signup code that gives you £5 reward when you sign up (for transparency I would get £5 too).-1

That is a good idea and indeed I tried it once the only slight Downside for me was that everything appeared on the credit card as Curve i.e. not the original merchant so you didn't know what was what
that may not be a problem for you0 -

I don't know who you bank with but for me its always shown as Crv*and then the merchant name so i've always known where it was I'd made the purchase using my Curve card.

You are quite right for Barclaycard which was the subject of this thread apologies I must have been thinking of a different account
on Barclaycard it shows up as for example crv*Sainsburys0 -
And in the real world...Apple's vendor lock-in stops Barclays forcing their second rate NFC service onto iPhone owners.dr_adidas01 said:Barclaycard don’t support NFC on android phones as it’s not as secure as Apple's NFC chip as only Apple Pay is allowed to use it hence why they allow Apple Pay.Any app on Android phones has access to the NFC chip, so Barclaycard have decided not to allow there cards to be used on Google pay as it’s not as secure.0 -

It's just Barclays being awkward as they enabled Apple Pay for debit/credit cards.MinuteNoodles said:Barclaycard have their own mobile app they want you to use. It existed for contactless payments long before Apple and Google's offerings and Barclays clearly don't want to pay Apple or Google a percentage of the transaction in commission.
Just be aware that their own app can be flaky when it comes to making contactless payments.I've had constant issues with Barclaycard contactless payments. Typically I get the double low tone (payment declined) when at the till and it flashes up a cryptic error code. Then I have to start fumbling around trying to find out it what is wrong, or most likely dig out my card ... Of course screenshots are disabled and apparently the errors are not logged anywhere so there's no way of finding out afterwards what went wrong. There seems to be a multitude of different problems - I've had the app update itself with no warning whatsover and then it forced me to go through *all* the security config again. Luckily the checkout person let me put my shopping aside and served the rest of the queue while it took me 15mins to go through the settings of new passwords etc. again and then it finally worked. Then other times the app kept wanting me to login, sometimes to approve new T&Cs every few weeks, other times just for an unknown reason. Another time it updated the app and just plain refused to work. After complaining to Barclays it turned out that the new version no longer supported my phone (S7) and I'd have to get a new phone! They recommended that I just keep logging into the app, just in case! It seems clear that there is no usability testing going on. I'm sure all this disruption is justified internally for reasons of "security", but to the end user it ends up being a royal PITA. I tried using Google Pay but tripped up like the OP with Barclaycard not working.Do others have these issues, and should I just give up the idea of contactless as a half-baked idea rushed out by mobile manufacturers but now hamstrung by security issues? Or is it just Barclaycard? I'm not sure about the Curve thing - as it sounds like more layers and added complexity...

if you want to use barclaycard on your android phone then there are really only 2 options - the barclays app or via curve.
Curve adds another layer - probably ok until something goes wrong eg a retailer dispute or techical problem.0 -
I found the Barclays app unreliable. Had an error code when trying to pay. Totally lost confidence in mobile payments. Can't see a major advantage over just using a card to make contactless payment. In fact using a card is faster, you don't have to faff about turning nfc on, opening up the app etc. I have Barclaycard but use Curve. Haven't tried gpay but think I will stick to card0

Why not use a diiferent card in Google Pay, assuming you've got other CCs? Barclaycard clearly haven't implemented contactless paymentsin Android very well.toothdoctor said:I found the Barclays app unreliable. Had an error code when trying to pay.
